Wings Of Memory site update (http://www.wingsofmemory.be)

Many years aga we meet a incredible band of brothers from Geraardsbergen and around.
Theses friends demonstrated incredible creativity and skills to search, find and perpetuate the memory of airmen.
They did and do not do it to entertain their ego or their public image but to keep alight for current and future generation the experience of peoples who once a day spread their wings as WW2 aviators or aviation pioneers whatever are the difficulties.
In a hard no mercy economic war, these messages of courage had been so important to boost our morale.
Today this fraternity of airminded peoples are united in the project

In short, 

  • Wings of Memory helped the ex astronaut Thomas Jones to send back home a P-47 Thunderboldt of  365 FG. This group operated from Chièvres and Florennes..
  • In September 2011, Wings of memory was involved in the repair and restoration of the monument on the last of resting place of Georges Nellis, the first belgian Military pilot.

Wings Of Memory werd gecontacteerd door ex-astronaut Thomas Jones om te helpen een P-47 Thunderbolt van de 365 USAF Fighter Group terug naar huis te brengen. Tom Jones is de auteur van het boek "Hell Hawks". De 365 FG opereerde in 1944 en 1945 vanop de vliegvelden Chiévres en Florennes. Lees hier het volledige verhaal.












Wings Of Memory werd in september 2011 aangezocht om het beschadigde monument van de eerste Belgische militaire piloot Georges Nelis te restaureren. Lees hier het volledige verhaal. (Franstalige en Engelstalige paginas zijn nog in opmaak).
