The maiden flight of new African air operator Korongo Airlines’
twice-weekly service between Lubumbashi, in the Democratic Republic of
Congo (DRC), and Johannesburg, left the OR Tambo International Airport
on Friday.
Korongo, which would connect regions in Central Africa with
Johannesburg and Brussels, in Belgium, kicked off its domestic
operations from Lubumbashi on April 16.
Friday’s flight carried about 40 passengers on the 126-seat Boeing 373-300. Korongo CEO Christophe Allard told Engineering News Online that passenger numbers was expected to grow exponentially.
