Military airfield G

It was one of the first airbases of the Belgian air force. It was built in 1922 and housed a recon-group, equipped with Ansaldo A300 and De Havilland DH 9 aeroplanes. When the Germans invaded on the 10th may of 1940, the Luftwaffe attacked and bombed this airbase. The few remaining, undestroyed, aeroplanes were evacuated to France. During the occupation, the Germans used the airbase only as a back-up. At the end of the second World War, it was bombed again, but this time by the Americans.
