On the night of 13/14 February 1945, RAF Bomber Command carried out a raid on the city of Dresden, the capital of Saxony, Germany. For all intents and purposes, this was a standard mission undertaken in much the same way as any other sortie; yet, in the wake of the tremendous loss of life and destruction it caused, it would be regarded as one of the most controversial events of World War Two. 70 years on, Elliott Marsh draws together the experiences of the men who partook in the raid and the civilians they bombed to tell the story of the fateful night which seared the name 'Dresden' into the annals of history.
