Sonaca Aircraft has completed the first flight of the Sonaca 200 at Charleroi airport

Gosselies (Belgium), June 20th 2017 - Sonaca Aircraft has just started the flight test campaign of the Sonaca 200, single engine two-seater designed for pilots' training and leisure flights. In order to achieve the flight tests, Sonaca Aircraft uses the second aircraft (FTA2 - Flight Test Aircraft 2) assembled in Sonaca's factories in Belgium.

 The flight tests campaign, of a duration of four months, starts in Belgium and will be pursued in South of France (Avignon).

 The ground and flight trials are being conducted with the aim of obtaining the EASA certification.

La campagne des essais en vol, d'une durée de quatre mois, démarre en Belgique et se poursuivra dans le Sud de la France (Avignon).

Les essais au sol et en vol sont réalisés en vue de l'obtention de la certification EASA.

Actualités :

·       Sonaca Aircraft a démarré l'assemblage des deux premiers avions destinés aux essais au sol et en vol en vue de l'obtention de la certification EASA

·       IABG (Allemagne), centre de référence en matière de tests et d'analyses pour l'industrie aérospatiale, conduira les tests statiques de voilure

·       80% de la structure du Sonaca 200 a été redimensionnée par rapport à la version « Construction Amateur » de départ

Ce début d'année 2017 est consacré à l'assemblage des deux premiers appareils destinés aux essais au sol et en vol du Sonaca 200, monomoteur biplace développé par Sonaca Aircraft.

Le premier avion (Test Aircraft 1), assemblé sur le site de Sonaca en Belgique, est entièrement dédié aux essais au sol « Nous avons testé la résistance des sièges, des ceintures (harnais) mais aussi le bâti-moteur et la jambe de train avant en simulant des atterrissages durs ou par vents de travers. Fin février, nous confierons les tests de résistance de l'aile à l'IABG, centre d'essais aéronautiques basé en Allemagne et spécialisé dans les tests de résistance » détaille Vincent Jaumotte, Ingénieur d'essai pour Sonaca Aircraft.

Un second avion (Test Aircraft 2) servira aux essais en vol programmés dans le courant du mois d'avril.

La nouvelle version du Sonaca 200 modifiée à 80%  

La forme de l'avion, le profil de l'aile et le choix des matériaux ont été maintenus. En ce qui concerne les modifications et les améliorations apportées au prototype, 80% de la structure de départ a été remaniée afin de répondre aux exigences du marché, d'une part, et aux exigences de certification EASA, d'autre part. « Nous avons significativement modifié la résistance structurelle pour considérer une masse maximale au décollage de 750 kg avec un facteur de charge de 4.4G, soit une augmentation de l'ordre de 25% par rapport à l'avion initial ».

Les structures de l'appareil ont été renforcées : « Les longerons principaux de la voilure, la connexion au fuselage et le longeron central ont été redessinés et certains alliages d'aluminium ont été modifiés afin de tenir compte des charges aérodynamiques, de la fatigue des matériaux ainsi que des aspects liés à la corrosion. Les changements portent également sur le renforcement de l'arceau de verrière, le train d'atterrissage, l'empennage vertical et horizontal y compris sa connexion au fuselage, l'hélice, le système de freinage ainsi que l'instrumentation et le circuit d'alimentation d'essence » détaille Carl Mengdehl, Responsable Engineering & Certification Sonaca Aircraft.

Un avion certifié spécialement conçu pour une utilisation intensive

"En intégrant toutes ces modifications, Sonaca Aircraft souhaite proposer aux écoles de pilotage et aux aéroclubs, un avion moderne et certifié adapté à un usage professionnel et intensif", conclut Pierre Van Wetter, Pilote et Chief Commercial Officer, Sonaca Aircraft.

Since then, Sonaca Aircraft has pursued its approach of the European market, introducing the Sonaca 200 in Italy, Portugal, the Netherlands and Scandinavia. Certification, production launch and delivery. We have initiated the certification process as well as the production and assembly of two test aircraft intended for the ground and flight trials, respectively scheduled in January and March 2017. Regarding production, it is planned to start with a yearly capacity of 25 aircraft at Sonaca's site in Gosselies (Belgium). Ultimately, we aim at expanding our activities in another airfield in Belgium in order to increase our production capacities as of 2019. The first deliveries of the Sonaca 200 remain on target for the end of 2017. Belgian Flight School (BFS), acteur majeur de la formation des pilotes de ligne en Belgique, investit dans une flotte neuve et signe avec Sonaca Aircraft pour la fourniture de 8 appareils de type Sonaca 200.

Désireuse d'offrir à ses élèves pilotes des appareils de dernière génération, BFS a opté pour le renouvellement progressif de sa flotte. Construit en Alliage d'Aluminium (fuselage et ailes) et équipé d'un moteur Rotax (914F-115 hp), le Sonaca 200 est un avion biplace destiné à l'entraînement et aux vols de loisirs. « Nous souhaitions un appareil qui réponde parfaitement aux missions de l'apprentissage de base et des vols d'entrainement. L'avion devait être à la fois réactif, suffisamment puissant, solide, économique en termes de consommation et de coûts de maintenance. Le Sonaca 200 est, à mon sens, à la pointe de la technologie, du savoir-faire et est, de ce fait, le meilleur choix du marché » précise Benjamin Loth, Chief Flight Instructor, Belgian Flight School.

Disponible à la vente depuis février 2016 en Europe, le Sonaca 200 est en cours d'homologation et devrait être certifié EASA CS-VLA Night VFR d'ici fin 2017.

Au sujet de Belgian Flight School

                   La Belgian Flight School (BFS) a été créée en 1981 sur l'aérodrome de Grimbergen avant de déménager, quelques années plus tard, sur l'aéroport de Charleroi. BFS propose actuellement deux types de formations permettant de devenir pilote de ligne, à savoir les formations intégrées et modulaires ainsi que de nombreux modules optionnels  tels que le Jet Orientation Course, l'initiation à la voltige, les cours de remédiation en mathématiques et physique et des formations instructeurs.

Ces formations sont dispensées par une vingtaine d'instructeurs en vol et une quinzaine d'instructeurs théoriques.

BFS compte, en moyenne, une centaine d'étudiants et de locataires, venant d'Europe et d'ailleurs ce qui représente entre 9000 et 12000 heures de vol sur une année.

At the Aero Friedriechshafen show (April 20—24, 2016, Germany), Sonaca Aircraft announced having achieved 14 orders of the Sonaca 200 amounting to 2.5 million euros. The 14 firm orders break down as follows: Belgium : Air Academy New CAG - 8 aircrafts France : Aeroclub Tissandier (Saint-Cyr- l'Ecole) - 2 aircrafts United-Kingdom : Flight Training London (Elstree) - 2 aircrafts Germany : FFL Flugschule am Flughafen Essen/Mülheim - 2 aircrafts The company currently continues its European tour in order to introduce the aircrafts to aero clubs and flight schools. At the Paris Air Expo show (June 2-6, 2016, France), Sonaca Aircraft promoted the Sonaca 200 through the testimonies of general aviation professionals who have had the opportunity to fly the aircraft. Regarding development and certification, the plans have been approved and transferred to the production for the manufacture of the first parts in Sonaca's factories.
