SBAP update 04-03-2022

Forwarded message - From: sbap

Dear aviation enthusiast,

This week on SBAP web site

Events:

Brussels Airport: February Air Traffic (Belgium)
The shortest month of the year is coming to an end and it will probably be remembered for
the international events and more particularly for the outbreak of the war in Ukraine with all
that this entails in terms of world stability.
All this to say that the traffic at Brussels Airport was intense, especially diplomatically and
militarily speaking with many meetings at EU and NATO Headquarters.

Events:

Brussels Airport: December Air Traffic (Belgium)
December, which offered a lot of interesting things at Brussels Airport. However,
the weather was more than capricious, with rain, sun, sleet and especially fog.
Without question, the worst weather day was undoubtedly the 17th of December,
the official day of the farewell of the C-130H of the Belgian Air Force

Red Flag 21-3
Red Flag exercise at Nellis AFB near Las Vegas, Nevada, is always a great event for
military aviation enthusiasts. Typically this exercise takes place three times a year with
RF YY-1 in January/February, RF YY-2 in March, and RF YY-3 in July/August.
There was no exception for the recent RF 21-3 exercise.

U.S.N.T.P.S. New Colours
July 10th was a very hot and humid day in Houston, TX, after days of rainy weather.
I was at KEFD for a meeting just a stone throw away from the NASA hangar where the
T-38N fleet is kept and maintained. While conducting my business in the ramp area,
I took a quick glance at the NASA hangar and I noticed an aircraft that did not belong there…
To be followed…

Brussels Airport: August Air Traffic
The month of August is now over and here is a little report from Brussels Airport.
First of all, the sky was not brilliant, to say the least, with a majority of grey, cold and
sometimes rainy days. A plane with blue sky in August 2021 is a real chance.
Finally, the month of August took another turn with the launch of Operation Red Kite,
which was set up to ensure repatriations from Afghanistan following the departure of
the Armed Forces and the capture of the capital Kabul by the Taliban.

Dear aviation enthusiast,

This week on SBAP web site

Events:

National Day 2021
This year, part of the team went either to Melsbroek, Florennes or to the center of Brussels,
or more precisely to the Cinquantenaire Park, since the "neutral zone" was forbidden.
This is how you will get the widest possible overview of this fly past, which in the end
only included 19 planes and not a single helicopter, as these were on standby to help the
flood victims. And what's more, the weather was very hot, causing heat haze and other "milky" skies.

Dear aviation enthusiast,

This week on SBAP web site

Events:

Brussels Airport: June Air Traffic
June was undoubtedly a busy month for Brussels airport and the adjoining Melsbroek military base.
In addition to passenger and cargo traffic, military traffic was intense due to the visit of the new
American President Joe Biden and the mythical Air Force One.
With just over 400 photos presented, we thought it appropriate to separate things into two pages,
one focusing on commercial or business aviation and the other marking military or government traffic.
In spite of this separation, some aircraft in the civil domain had been "charted" by the Belgian defence...

CH-13… Happy Retirement
This page is the logical continuation of the article we published when the CH-13 was
withdrawn from the 15th Wing fleet and its last flight to Beauvechain airbase (EBBE),
the ultimate destination for this aircraft. Under the auspices of the War Heritage Institute,
the aircraft finally found its way into the inventory of the 1st Wing Historical Center in
order to be preserved and, above all, to offer the public access to this mythical machine
that marked some of the great pages in the history of our Air Force.

SBAP update 01-06-2021

A fantastic picture portfolio of the SBAP team

Forwarded message - From: sbap

Dear aviation enthusiast,

This week on SBAP web site

Events:

Brussels Airport: May Air Traffic
May was certainly a busy month for military and governmental aircraft.
There were obviously quite a few movements recorded by the 15th Wing, which continues
to fly 5 C-130H's and of course the A400M's, which mainly continue their training flights
as part of the operational qualification of aircraft and crews.
Also quite a few foreign visitors, what could be more normal with two EU summits and
one NATO summit in one month! In short, it was a ballet of RCAF, USAF and other Air Forces
allowing us to picture the Canadian Canadair Challenger, the American C-42A and C-40C
or even the plane of the government of Kazakhstan, the one that came from Tirana carrying
the Albanian national colours or the one bringing the delegation representing Serbia
and relatively rare under our skies.

Postcards from Florennes
Covid year two...airshows and other aviation events are still at a standstill.
We miss the smell of kerosene, the din of jet engines and the sight of arrow-fast planes.
So to make up for this lack, one of the solutions is to go around the bases
of Belgium and to immortalize some aircraft (that we have already photographed dozens
of times, but you never know...).
Firmly decided while the weather is good, it is towards Florennes that the objectives were
turned with the aim to see and immortalize the Lockheed Martin F-16AM FA-87 specially
decorated to celebrate the three-quarter of a century of this Air Force.

Forwarded message - From: sbap

Dear aviation enthusiast,

This week on SBAP web site

Events:

Brussels Airport: April Air Traffic
Hehehe...in the month of April don't get your hopes up...the adage was true with a
variation between winter and summer weather. This offered azure blue skies or a
depressing background of greyness.
But Brussels Airport's traffic continued, oh not the traffic of the good Covid -2 or -3 years,
but still some interesting things as you will see in this page.
This month offered a rich panel of Civilian and Military aircrafts.
Fasten your seatbelt, adjust your mouth mask and here we go !

SBAP update on 21-03-2021

Dear aviation enthusiast,

This week on SBAP web site:

Events:

Half Century Mighty Hercs
& The 15th Wing transition year

The modernization of the Belgian Air Force and more specifically the consequent changes
within the 15th Transport Wing are going well. Indeed, three A400M's have already been
delivered and half of the fleet of the "Mighty Hercs"' has been retired.
The milestone year of 2021 is the last year of activity for the good old Hercules and before
their well-deserved final retirement, it was necessary to mark the occasion in a very visible way.

Events:
Brussels Airport: January Air Traffic
The first month of the year 2021 has already passed...
only eleven months to go and it is Christmas... Yesssssss !
So here we are again with the activity at Brussels Airport, which, it must be said,
did not benefit from very good weather every day. But here we are, sometimes
with some rare or interesting planes arriving in the rain, in the fog or during a
small snowstorm, that caught the authorities off guard...
Enjoy your flight with us and stay safe.

"Razzle Blades"
On 28 January 2021, the Belgian Air Force presented the new paint scheme of the
Agusta A109BAi solo display. H46 helicopter (OT-AKN), last one delivered (in February 1994)
of a series of 46 aircraft ordered by the Belgian authorities on December 8th, 1988,
which exchanged its traditional green livery for a much bolder paint scheme.
It is time to follow us on the Beauvechain airbase and discover the official presentation
of "Razzle Blades". Ready ? Lift off !
