[Belgian Wings] A Lockheed 12 A Electra to be based at...

The new year start well with this news from Belgian Wings
Forwarded message - From: Daniel Brackx

Daniel Brackx , Günter Besowski et Luc Magister ont publié dans Belgian Wings .       Daniel Brackx 5 Janvier, 17:49   A Lockheed 12 A Electra to be based at Genk-Zwartberg will arrive at the airfield in early April 2018 Lockheed 12A N14999 will return to Europe and be based in Belgium. After its spectacular trip across the Atlantic and participation to Flying Legends 2016, this Electra Junior is inbound for Europe again. Mr Luc Hellings, who owns as well the T-28B Trojan N1328B and a TB-20 Trinidad, bought late 2017 the plane from Mr Pat Donovan and will fly it to Belgium in April 2018. His aircraft collection is based at Genk-Zwartberg airfield, in the North-East of Belgium. There are only two flyable Lockheed 12's in Europe (the other one belongs to famous aviation journalist and speaker Mr Bernard Chabbert and is based at Arcachon-Adernos, France) and only nine in flyable condition worldwide. N14939 was completed by Lockheed in its Burbanks, California plant on 6 December 1938 and delivered to the Continental Oil Company for which it flew until 1950. The airplane was then owned by a series of corporate operators (oil, gas and real estate), before ending as sky-divers plane. Mr Pat Donovan found the plane in 1989 in the back of a hangar in San Marcos, Texas and started an intensive restauration. First flight after this restauration took place in 1992 and the plane attended subsequently several airshows in the Pacific North West. In 2003, Mr Donovan emigrated to New Zealand and based his Electra on the South Island until 2010 when he moved back to the USA. "Ilsa", named after the Ingrid Bergman character in Casablaca movie, will remain at Moses Lake, Washington until his trans Atlantic trip to Belgium beginning of April. The Lockheed 12A Electra N14939 will be presented at several airshows throughout Europe in unique formation fly-by's with T-28's as of summer 2018. Pictures ©Luc Hellings.
