Brussels Airport started the year with almost 1.7 million passengers

Brussels Airport welcomed almost 1.7 million passengers in January 2019, up 2.6% on the same month last year. Growth was recorded in both short-haul and long-haul. Cargo on the other hand showed a decrease, despite an increase in belly cargo and trucked cargo.

At 60, Brussels Airport turned in an excellent performance in 2018 with 25.7 million passengers and 732,000 tonnes of cargo
In 2018, Brussels Airport welcomed 25.7 million passengers, an all-time record that is largely driven by the expansion of the intercontinental network. Air cargo closed the year with 732,000 tonnes carried, which is the highest freight volume in 10 years. Over the 60 years of its existence, Brussels Airport has welcomed no less than 610 million passengers, all categories combined.

More than 2.4 million passengers for Brussels Airport in September

More than 2.4 million passengers flew via our airport in September, up 2% on September 2017. Cargo volumes at Brussels Airport also recorded a2.5% increase on the same period last year. In contrast, the number of flights decreased by 1.2% compared to September 2017.

Brussels Airport welcomed 12 million passengers during the first semester

Brussels Airport welcomed 12 million passengers during the first semester and
25.3 million passengers over the last 12 months

Over the first six months of 2018, Brussels Airport set an all-time record by exceeding the 12 million passenger mark, which represents a 4.4% rise compared to the same period in 2017. Long-haul traffic in particular enjoyed substantial growth thanks to the arrival of new carriers and new destinations. Cargo traffic went up by 6.9 % during the first semester by comparison with the same period last year, thanks to a healthy increase in the volume of belly cargo and in trucked air cargo.

Brussels Airport and De Lijn start pilot project with self-driving bus
Tests on airport site as of early 2020

The board of directors of De Lijn and the management committee of Brussels Airport Company have given the go-ahead for a pilot project with a self-driving electric bus on the airport. The vehicle that is being developed for this, will be one of the first to drive in Belgium in mixed traffic. After the summer of 2019, tests without passengers will begin at constructor 2GetThere in Utrecht. The shuttle bus will arrive at Brussels Airport in the beginning of 2020 for further tests.

Brussels Airport receives record 5.2 million passengers in the first quarter

Brussels Airport achieved an all-time record of more than 5.2 million passengers in the first quarter of 2018. Long haul and transfer traffic in particular have risen sharply due to the considerable expansion of Brussels Airport's intercontinental network in the past year. Total cargo tonnage at the airport increased by 2.3% in the first quarter compared to the same period last year, owing to a sharp increase in belly cargo and trucked air cargo.
