Space : University student experiments take to the skies

It was up, up and away for seven teams of university students last week when the REXUS 17 and 18 sounding rockets took to the sky. The teams' experiments soared to the top of the Mesosphere, returning data that will now be analysed.

Zo ziet de Belgische hoofdstad Brussel eruit, gezien vanuit de ruimte. De wat vreemde kleuren zijn het gevolg van het feit dat het gaat om een opname in 'valse' kleuren. Bij een dergelijke opname geven de verschillende kleuren verschillende soorten vegetatie weer.

Cette image en "fausses couleurs" a été prise par le satellite Spot-5 le 28 septembre 2011 et couvre une large partie de Bruxelles et de sa banlieue nord-est.
Si l'on s'intéresse plus particulièrement à la ville, on aperçoit un certain nombre d'espaces verts, tel le parc du Cinquantenaire en lisière du quartier européen. Bruxelles est la capitale de facto de l'Union européenne et grâce à la présence des institutions de l'Union sur son sol, la ville est devenue un pôle majeur des relations internationales.

An experimental vehicle to develop an autonomous European reentry capability for future reusable space transportation has completed its mission. ESA's Intermediate eXperimental Vehicle flew a flawless reentry and splashed down in the Pacific Ocean just west of the Galapagos islands.
