Events:
Welcome Home "Atlas"
This was an important event and in fact, it has taking a long time for everyone to be
able to welcome the A400M CT-02, alias MSN 106. This aircraft is the first one to proudly
wear the black, yellow and red colours of the Kingdom of Belgium and the
"Belgian Air Force" markings... National pride is still present whatever one may say.
Welcome " Atlas ", farewell " Hercules " !

Dear aviation enthusiast,

This week on SBAP web site:

Reports:
RAF Lakenheath
Despite being a Royal Air Force station, Lakenheath airbase is currently hosted only
by United States Air Force units and personnel.
The host wing is the 48th Fighter Wing (48 FW), also known as the "Liberty Wing",
assigned to United States Air Forces in Europe.
RAF Lakenheath and its sister base RAF Mildenhall are the two main U.S. Air Force
bases in United Kingdom, and the 48th Fighter Wing is the only U.S. Air Force F-15
fighter wing in U.K. and also in Europe. Follow us for a look to the base activities.

[Sbap.be] SBAP update on 01-11-2020

Forwarded message - From: sbap

Dear aviation enthusiast,

This week on SBAP web site:

Events:
Brussels Airport: October Air Traffic
The month of October was more than certainly the one which put forward the giant "Atlas".
You will understand, this is the long awaited arrival of the first BeLux A400M.
But October was also the month of European Union summits, no less than two over
a period of two weeks! And finally, this autumn month was also the one bringing some
surprises of choice, planes quite rare on the Brussels Airport runways and which we
were able to be immortalized for the pleasure of the eyes and the digital sensors despite
the "Fifty shades of gr
ey" of the Belgian sky with time to time some few shy sun rays

Nörvenich Italian Fashion
During the period from 28 September to 15 October, the German base at Nörvenich
was host to a panel of fighters from the Aeronautica Militare Italiana. Six Panavia
Tornado ECR operated from the German airbase, but also daily pairs of Typhoon
and AMX shuttled daily between the base of Istrana and the TLG 31 "Boelke" base
at Nörvenich. Our reporter went there just before that German
Authorities decides to
close the border to the Belgian citizen regarding the Covid-19 case

Dear aviation enthusiast,

This week on SBAP web site:

Events:

SNAP 2020 @ Nörvenich
This is a purely national exercise aimed to rescue German citizens in crisis or war zones,
whether civilian or military. These are the air assets that are tested during the SNAP exercise
with as main goal perfecting the coordination between the different types of aircraft, whether
combat or transport. It is not common to see the Luftwaffe from this angle and this exercise
is a real opportunity to immortalize a panel of German flying machines.

Oirschotse Heide
The "Oirschotse Heide" located near the city of Eindhoven is also known as the GLV5
training area and the site is used very intensively for exercises. While walking around this
reserve one can be faced with practicing soldiers who sometimes move heavy armored
vehicles and possibly at high speeds. The Dutch Air Force uses part of the reserve for
helicopter crew training. It is possible to witness some Chinook, Cougar or other Apache
in action. Follow us in the dust and sand of a combat area
.

Dear aviation enthusiast,

This week on SBAP web site:

Events:
Brussels Airport: Covid-19 Flts (Part 17)Brussels Airport arrivals and departures between 26-07-2020 and 01-08-2020This was a normal traffic week with again many chartered flights with mostly South destinations.
We have noted some interesting special paints this week and th come back of some airlines...
But the question is: was it not too early in the actual pandemic situation to let go the holydays abroad?
Our opinion is that we will pay it cash and the situation will be worse than the first wave...

National Day @ Florennes AirbaseThis year, the National Day was not like the others, not so festive and really very limited
regarding the military parade. At the air level, only an NH-90 NFH with the national flag
as opening and a wave of 9 F-16 Fighting Falcons. Two of our photographers went to Florennes
to witness the return of the 10 fighters (1 reserve) to their home base. Sad times we live and endure!

Dear aviation enthusiast,

This week on SBAP web site:

Events:
Brussels Airport: Covid-19 Flts (Part 16)
Brussels Airport arrivals and departures between 19-07-2020 and 25-07-2020
A week with a lot of passenger traffic, the last flight of the Belgian Air Force CH-04 and
a few military visitors. In short, a week which was normal for Brussels Airport traffic.
But we must face the facts, the reins were released too quickly by the authorities,
the "modern" human being (and fundamentally selfish) not holding in place had to go
and maintain his melanoma in the sun with as result, a second wave emerging and which
according to the estimations will be much worse than the first one…
This too early release in the name of the god money
One sentence, only one to remember: protect yourself and so you will protect the others!

Dear aviation enthusiast,

This week on SBAP web site:

Events:
Brussels Airport: Covid-19 Flts (Part 15)A busy week in terms of aircraft types, different registrations and bad weather in general.
It was also the week of a mini NATO summit on Monday, but also of the famous European
summit which is still in progress. Waltz of government planes, most of which arrived on
Thursday in very bad weather conditions. An end of week with the return of the sun and
some few surprises at the commercial aviation level.
It's up to you now to discover and continue to protect yourself because our friend Covid
is waiting for us at the turn, not hesitating to take advantage of human stupidity ...

Dear aviation enthusiast,

This week on SBAP web site:

Events:
Brussels Airport: Covid-19 Flts (Part 14)Brussels Airport arrivals and departures between 05-07-2020 and 11-07-2020
Airport activity has resumed normally, not 100%, but charter traffic has increased
significantly. Takeoffs and landings are no longer done systematically by the
RWY 07L / 25R and RWY 01/19 since the reopening on July 08 of the RWY 07R / 25L.
Wind conditions have therefore resumed their right. For enthusiasts,
beware from July 13 the RWY 07L / 25R will be closed for six weeks of work 24/24 - 7/7.
Good flight for this last page Covi-19 Flts.
Let's see the second wave announced and take care of yourself!

SEGA-FAIREY-SONACA: A centenary of aviation (Part 1)One of the jewels of the Belgian aeronautical industry, Sonaca celebrates this year
its centenary. Our collaborator Pierre Taquet offers us a summary of these 100 years
devoted to aviation and space in a two parts saga.
This week the history starts at the origins in 1920 until the golden 70's with some
big projects to come. Do not miss this opus for a return to the history of aviation in Belgium.

So Long "Gadjet" The Alpha Jet of the Belgian Air Force, affectionately called "Gadjet" by the pilots and
mechanics, arrived in Belgium on tiptoe and the end of its career is just as discreet,
even more dull, for an airplane which rendered so many services and trained so many pilots.
The 25 remaining planes will leave Belgium soon, sadly without any tribute,
without any worthy farewell, to go and grace other skies...
SBAP has decided to pay a final tribute to this aircraft, so discreet as so efficient
and so recognizable with its dolphin silhouette.

This week on SBAP web site:

Events:
Brussels Airport: Covid-19 Flts (Part 13)Brussels Airport arrivals and departures between 28-06-2020 and 04-07-2020
It was, as you will see, a busy week. It is clear that passenger traffic has resumed
with the start of summer holidays. You will still find some cargo planes, but above
all charter flights vacation oblige. OO-XXX registrations have also gone back to the
sky but not at 100% yet. There was also some Military traffic for the roundels lover.
But remember, our friend of the moment, Covid alias corona is not yet gone
100% either.. So, one last word: stay careful!
