Brussels Airlines operates 2.486 additional flights this summer season

Brussels Airlines offers 11 new destinations this summer season, which, in aviation, starts on 30 March and runs until end of October. In total the airline will expand its offer with 2.486 extra scheduled flights.
Brussels Airlines prepares itself for a busy summer season. Its fleet will be expanded and additional cabin crew members have been recruited and trained over the past few weeks to realize the summer season expansion plans. Compared to last year Brussels Airlines will operate 2,486 additional flights this summer, good for a total of 400,000 additional seats.
European network
11 new destinations make their debut in this year’s summer schedule: Alicante, Athens, Bari, Bastia, Cagliari, Figari, Krakow, Malta, Montpellier, Seville and Warsaw. Several existing routes will have additional flight frequencies, including Catania, Faro, Florence, Lisbon, Madrid, Malaga, Marseille, Palermo, Marrakech and Stockholm Bromma. Like last year, Brussels Airlines also reopens Porto as a summer route. The city bears this year’s title of “Europe’s Best Destination”.
The short- and medium haul network consists of a total of 58 destinations this summer and is further complemented by codeshare destinations operated by partner airlines.
“Next to our well-established offer for the business traveler, we wanted to also increase the attractiveness of our leisure network. With this network expansion, we offer more than ever an excellent range of holiday destinations”, says Frédéric Dechamps, Brussels Airlines Vice President Sales Benelux, Europe and America.
Long-haul network
This summer, the Brussels Airlines long-haul network is also further optimized with additional flight frequencies. An additional flight is scheduled to Luanda (Angola) and Bujumbura (Burundi). This brings the number of weekly flights to these destinations to three instead of two. An additional (fifth) weekly flight is scheduled to operate to Nairobi (Kenya). The intercontinental network includes a total of 2 destinations to the United States and 19 destinations to Africa.

Charter activity
Brussels Airlines also plans a lot of charter activity this summer. The airline will operate holiday flights to sunny Mediterranean destinations on behalf of Belgian and foreign tour operators. Their largest customers are Thomas Cook and Club Med. Brussels Airlines also offers holiday flights from French and Swiss airports. In total, 1044 holiday flights are planned for this summer season.

Brussels Airlines starts flights to Washington today 18 June 2013

Starting today 18 June 2013, Brussels Airlines operates five flights per week between Brussels Airport and Washington Dulles. The new scheduled service aims at passengers travelling to the American capital as well as passengers who connect to other destinations in the United States via Washington.

After an absence of 12 years, a Belgian passenger aircraft will land in Washington Dulles Airport today with Brussels Airlines flight SN515. And that’s not the only novelty: SN515 is the first and only flight with a late afternoon departure from Brussels Airport to the United States. The inaugural flight will be sent off festively at Brussels Airport and awaits a warm welcome in the American capital.
With this new scheduled service Brussels Airlines doesn’t only connect the European and American capitals with each other: Brussels Airport en Washington Dulles are two important hubs of the Star Alliance network and this new service creates dozens of new connection possibilities. The flight schedule allows for passengers to connect to many other destinations in the US with other Star Alliance partners. A lot of passengers combine the Washington flight with a connection to the West Coast or big cities in the US. The first flight to Washington has passengers on board who travel onwards to San Francisco, Mississippi, Chicago, Indianapolis and Kansas City. The first flight departing from Washington welcomes passengers that transfer through Brussels Airport to other Brussels Airlines destinations like Oslo, Kinshasa, Abidjan, Copenhagen and Douala.
This summer season Brussels Airlines flies 5 times per week to Washington D.C. All flights are operated with Airbus A330-200 or A330-300 aircraft that have recently been refurbished with comfortable Business- and Economy Class cabins.

Long haul growth
The new Washington D.C. route is launched exactly one year after the successful start of the New York JFK route, Brussels Airlines’ first trans-Atlantic route. Washington is the second East Coast destination for Brussel Airlines. The first commercial results are satisfying.

Washington and Edinburgh: new additions to Brussels Airlines’ summer flight schedule

Brussels Airlines adds two destinations to their summer timetable: Washington and Edinburgh. Several other destinations will have a higher weekly flight frequency, including Douala, Yaounde, Freetown and Milan Linate.  This weekend doesn’t only mark the change to daylight savings time, but also the start of the summer season in the aviation industry. The Brussels Airlines flight offer welcomes new destinations and returning summer destinations.

    Europe

Brussels Airlines connects Brussels Airport to 46 European destinations this summer season. On a weekly basis the short and mid-haul fleet will operate 680 flights per week. A new addition to the summer schedule is Edinburgh. The scheduled service to the Scottish capital was launched this winter and is now being expanded with an extra frequency. In total 12 weekly flights are planned for the summer. The airline also invests heavily in its popular Italy offer. After an interruption of 2 years, Palermo is again added to the summer timetable, with 2 weekly direct flights. Catania will be flown three times weekly from now on. The flight frequency to Linate, Milan’s city airport, is being increased with an extra evening and morning flight. In total 18 flights will be operated between Linate and Brussels this summer season. There’s also good news for those looking to fly to Venice. With three extra flight frequencies, the city will be served 17 times per week. Extra flights to Naples are also scheduled this summer and Florence and Lamezia Terme are back on the network after the winter break. The flight offer to other summer vacation destinations will also increase. Passengers travelling to the Costa del Sol or Andalusia can choose from 17 instead of 14 flights per week to Malaga. Faro, the entry port to the popular Algarve region, will be served 5 times per week instead of 4. The number of flights to the Hungarian capital Budapest will be slightly increased. Warsaw and Krakow have disappeared from the summer timetable compared to last summer season. In the mid haul offer, the weekly flights to Tel Aviv will be increased during the peak period of the summer season.

    Long haul network

Brussels Airlines’ entire long haul fleet is now equipped with the new Business Class (flat-beds, latest generation in in-flight entertainment) and Economy Class cabins (new ergonomic seating with plenty of legroom, latest generation of in-flight entertainment), so all passengers can now enjoy the impressive comfort upgrade that the airline invested in last year and that has been awarded several times already. The long haul fleet will be expanded with an additional Airbus A330, bringing the total at 8 long haul aircraft. Brussels Airlines also adds an important new destination to its intercontinental network, Washington Dulles. Starting June 18, he American capital will be served 5 times per week, directly from Brussels Airport. Washington is the second US destination for the airline, after the launch of New York JFK last year. With its White House, the Pentagon and several museums and magnificent parks, Washington is a perfect city trip destination. The flight schedule of the Washington service (late afternoon departure from Brussels, late night departure from Washington) is perfect for those who want to spend the entire day in Brussels or Washington. It also allows smooth connection to other international destinations, both via Brussels or Washington.
On the African continent, Brussels Airlines also reinforces its flight offer, thanks to extra flight frequencies. Both Yaoundé and Douala, in Cameroun, will be served daily during the peak months in summer season. The frequency to Freetown (Sierra Leone) will be increased from 2 to 4 times weekly and Conakry (Guinea) will be served 3 times a week. Dakar will be served daily.

    Best regards,

    Daniel
