wednesday 7 October 1914 and the fall of Antwerp: Capitaine-Commandant Mathieu, CO of the Air Service send a telegram to Headquarters asking what the intentions for the Compagnie d'Aviateurs were. All equipment (flying & rolling) was now at Ghent, where they were not welcome. According to a British (flying) officer, the Compagnie had to leave Ghent (in the direction of Ostende). If so, Mathieu asked to be informed before 1400 hrs. Commanding the city of Ghent, Général Clooten's answer was short, but powerful: Leave!
on the picture, it seems that the men are awaiting their orders: LtoR Omer Debary, Felix Isserentant, Raoul de Cartier, Alfred Sarteel, unknown, Edouard Delfosse of 2me Escadrille
