Je ne sais pas si vous avez suivi les infos mais j'ai reçu un choc lorsqu'en écoutant la radio j'ai entendu le nom du légionnaire tombé mardi au Mali. En effet, il s'agit d'Harold Vormezeele, le fils du colonel e r Vormezeele de l'Aviation Légère et frère de Frédéric, ex-commandant de bord à la Sabena qui mène actuellement de front sont métier de pilote de ligne et sa passion pour les avions de collection, passion qu'il a sans conteste hérité de son père.

Belgische C-130 beschadigd na vogelaanvaring in Mali

Eén van de twee C-130 Hercules-toestellen, die ons land momenteel inzet tijdens de operatie SERVAL, ter ondersteuning van de Franse troepen in Mali, heeft een bird strike (botsing met een vogel) opgelopen. Dit gebeurde tijdens de landing op het vliegveld van Timboektoe in Mali.

Het transportvliegtuig, met staartnummer CH-01, liep daarbij schade op aan de rechtervleugel. Op de plaats van de vogelimpact is een gat van 20 bij 30 cm geslagen in de aanvalsboord (leading edge, voorkant) van het vleugeloppervlak. De vliegveiligheid van het vliegtuig en zijn bemanning is nooit in gevaar gekomen.

Ter plekke werd een grondige inspectie van de elektrische bekabeling en van de hydraulische leidingen in de vleugel uitgevoerd. Hierbij werd geen bijkomende schade vastgesteld. De bemanning voerde een spoedherstelling op de beplating van de vleugel uit volgens de, in de technische documentatie van het vliegtuig, voorgeschreven procedures. Het toestel heeft vervolgens nog één vlucht gemaakt naar de luchthaven van Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso waar de nodige voorzieningen voor handen zijn om een definitieve herstelling uit te voeren. Defensie stuurde onmiddellijk de nodige wisselstukken om het vliegtuig op de kortst mogelijke termijn weer operationeel te maken. De vooruitzichten zijn dat het toestel morgen opnieuw inzetbaar is. Forty Belgian troops and two Agusta Medevac helicopters leave for Mali

Forty Belgian troops left Melsbroek Military Airport bound for Mali on Sunday morning 27 January 2013. After a stopover in an unspecified country they will be deployed operating two Belgian Army Medical Corp Augusta A109BA helicopters that are being sent to Mali as part of Operation Serval.

They will join the three Belgian soldiers already in Mali. The Belgians will be based in the Malian capital Bamako.

The two helicopters (registrations H-30 and H-39) left Melsbroek for Mali aboard a Russian Ilyushin 76 transport plane today (29/01). The exact location of where the helicopters will be based has yet to be confirmed.

The helicopters will be used to fly the wounded to hospitals and medical posts and consequently will be deployed as close to the front as is practically possible.

Belgium to offer France logistical backup in Mali

Belgium is set to contribute two C-130 transport planes and a medivac helicopter to back up France's offensive against Islamist fighters in Mali, Foreign Minister Didier Reynders said Tuesday.
A decision to offer “logistical” support will be taken at a special cabinet meeting on Mali later Tuesday to discuss a French request for backup, Reynders said on RTBF radio.
With France short on troop transport planes, Belgium was likely to offer a C-130 that is already in the region and a second that could be on the scene Wednesday. The helicopter will be flown in next week.In all the Belgian contribution would entail the dispatch of 80 soldiers.Reynders said the international community had been slow to respond to the crisis in Mali but that it was important now to look at an exit strategy to avoid getting bogged down as in Afghanistan.That is why it will be key to hand over as soon as possible to an international force made up of regional troops while participating in a European Union mission to train and restructure the Malian army, the minister said.
EU ministers are to hold an emergency meeting this week on Mali, probably on Thursday, during which they may announce the official launch of the 400- to 500-strong mission.
