Battle of Britain 75 – Pt.12 – RAF Biggin Hill's Day of Infamy, 30/08/40

by Elliott Marsh
The seven-week period from 18 August to October 1940 saw RAF Biggin Hill, Kent, facing the brunt of the Luftwaffe's campaign against Fighter Command's airfields in the southeast. In the course of the 16 bombing raids against the airfield, 43 people were killed and scores more wounded. Elliott Marsh looks at the events of 30 August 1940, during which dozens of men and women were killed in one brief raid by just nine German bombers.
