Passez vos vacances au musée !

Pendant cette période estivale, retrouvez toutes les activités du musée comme Planète Pilote, le Planétarium ou la visite des avions. Le musée reste ouvert le 14 juillet et le 15 août 2015.


Nuits des étoiles

Chaque année, le musée invite du 7 au 8 août 2015, les passionnés d'astronomie à venir observer les étoiles, et les néophytes à découvrir le ciel. Observations nocturnes et animations dans le planétarium et le hall de l'espace. Un des rares lieux en Île-de-France associé à cet événement. Pendant ces deux jours, le musée fermera exceptionnellement ses portes à 01h00 avec une fermeture temporaire entre 18h00 et 21h00.



Expo Comètes
Le musée de l'Air et de l'Espace accueille une exposition temporaire, proposée par le Laboratoire d'Excellence ESEP, Comètes : aux origines des systèmes planétaires, du 27 juin 2015 au 3 janvier 2016. Rendez-vous au musée, dans le hall de la Conquête spatiale et de l'entre-deux guerres.

Pluton
A l'occasion du passage de la sonde New Horizons à proximité de Pluton, le planétarium change sa programmation. Du mardi 14 au dimanche 19 juillet, une seule thématique tous les jours et à toutes les heures : « Voyage dans le système solaire » consacrée à cette planète naine.

Tout beau, tout neuf !
Le hall des avions de chasse a fait peau neuve et accueille une nouvelle scénographie. Venez redécouvrir cet espace qui retrace l'aventure d'avions militaires français légendaires. Profitez-en pour monter à bord du Super-Frelon et vivez l'expérience d'un sauvetage en mer.

Forfaits Navigo dézonés
Profitez du dézonage pour venir au musée. Vous pouvez circuler librement et au-delà de votre forfait le week-end, les jours fériés, les "petites" vacances (hiver, printemps, Toussaint et Noël) de la zone C, et les "grandes" vacances d'été.

Restaurant L'Hélice
Le restaurant l'Hélice vous propose tous les jours ses déjeuners en salle ou en terrasse. Dans un décor exceptionnel faites une pause face au tarmac pour une boisson, un sandwich ou un goûter.

Info travaux
De 2014 à 2017, le musée poursuit ses travaux de rénovation pour améliorer la qualité de votre visite et restera ouvert pendant cette période. Bruit éventuel et halls d'exposition en travaux fermés... Veuillez nous excuser pour la gêne occasionnée.

David et Rick Bremner ont fait voler la semaine dernière la réplique de Bristol Scout qu'ils ont construit. L'appareil contient des pièces original du Scout No 1264, utilisé par le grand-père des Bremner lorsqu'il était au sein du No 2 Wing RNAS durant la Première Guerre mondiale.
Le pilote Gene DeMarco, spécialisé dans les avions de la Première Guerre mondiale, était aux commandes pour les deux premiers vols, qui ont duré 5 et 12 minutes.

A World War II fighter pilot who gained fame for dramatically flying beneath the Eiffel Tower 's arches to take down a German aircraft has died aged 92.
William Overstreet Jr. died on Sunday at a hospital in Roanoke , Virginia , according to his obituary, but there was no indication of the cause of his death.
Overstreet's famously flew his P-51C 'Berlin Express' beneath the Eiffel Tower in Nazi-occupied Paris in 1944, which has been credited with lifting the spirits of French Resistance troops on the ground.
For his valiant service, the French ambassador to the United States presented Overstreet with France 's Legion of Honor at the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford in 2009.

 Before the ceremony, Overstreet had previously said that, if he lived long enough to receive the Legion of Honor, he would be accepting it in memory of his fallen brothers.
In particular, he wanted to pay tribute to a friend, Eddy Simpson, who died fighting the Nazis on the ground so his comrades, including Overstreet, could escape.
After the award was pinned to his lapel, Overstreet said: 'If I said, "Thank you," it wouldn't be enough,' before adding: 'What more than "thank you" do you need?'

Overstreet was also awarded hundreds of other medals for his service in the 357th squadron of the U.S. Army Air Forces, his obituary said.
He was born in Clifton Forge, Virginia in 1921 and after Pearl Harbor , he enlisted in the Air Corps as a fighter pilot.
By February 1942, he was a private and sent to California for flight training; here, his instructors prepared him for the unexpected mid-flight by cutting the engine as he landed.

Overstreet credited this extreme training method with preparing him for the unexpected in war, Warbirds News reported.
During training in 1943, he suffered a near-death crash when his plane, a Bell P-39 Airacobra, began spinning as he practiced maneuvers, and he was unable to control it.
He eventually forced his way out through the doors and found himself standing amid the wreckage.
When he flew in World War II, he suffered another freak accident when his oxygen line cut out as he flew 25,000 feet over France .
He passed out but snapped awake and controlled the plane and dodged trees in front of him to figure out where he was and land safely. Newspapers at the time reported that he could not remember a whole 90 minutes of the flight.
In the spring of 1944, he was following a German aircraft over Paris , with the two planes firing at each other. Overstreet eventually hit the other pilot's engine.

As the German pilot desperately sought to out-maneuver Overstreet, he flew beneath the Eiffel Tower - but the brave American flew directly beneath it and continued to fire.
The German plane crashed and Overstreet was able to escape the city.
The astounding show of skill and bravery lifted the spirits of the French, french dignitary, Bernard Marie, told the Roanoke Times.
He said he only fully understood the importance of Overstreet's feat when he spoke with his father about it.
'My father began shouting out me - "I have to meet this man",' Marie said. 'This guy has done even more than what people are thinking. He lifted the spirit of the French.'
After flying further missions, including a top secret escort mission, his tour of duty ended in October 1944 and he returned to the U.S.

He went on to teach at a gunnery school in Pinellas , Florida and when he was released from active duty, he remained on the Reserves.
He went on to work as General Manager of Charleston Aviation in West Virginia before moving to Roanoke in 1950, where he worked as an accountant until he was 65.
Before his death, he also worked with numerous charities and veterans groups, appearing at air shows and gatherings with fellow veterans. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nita.
Anne Mason Keller, Overstreet's niece, said of her uncle: 'He was a fighter, he was always a perfect gentleman. He was concise, focused with a delightful sense of humor and a twinkle in his eyes.
'He was always humble. Whenever the press interviewed him, he said, "I didn't do anything, we were a team".'
His family has asked that those attending his memorial service on Saturday those wear something either or both red and yellow, his squadron's colors.

Chers amis,

voilà bientôt un mois, je lançais ma campagne de financement participatif qui va conditionner la faisabilité de mon projet de documentaire : Face à l'Est.

Alors que nous approchons la mi-temps de la période impartie pour collecter le budget, une vingtaine de courageux a permis de rassembler 10% de l'objectif. Il n'y a bien sûr aucune linéarité dans une telle collecte, et divers événements peuvent casser, ou au contraire booster le rythme de collecte.

Ainsi, à partir de la semaine prochaine, le Lorraine Mondial Air Ballons à Chambley sera pour moi une période intensive où je tenterai de faire passer mon appel au grand public par voie de presse et tracts.

Néanmoins, je continue de compter sur le soutien des passionnés que vous êtes pour permettre à ce documentaire original de voir le jour.

L'objectif financier doit être atteint pour le 17 aout au plus tard. Sinon, tous les participants seront intégralement remboursés, mais surtout, le film ne se fera pas!

Je compte donc sur votre soutien à tous pour aider le compteur du "NATO-THON" à grimper! ;-)

Antique seaplane makes stop in Labrador before ocean hop

A vintage plane touched down in Happy Valley-Goose Bay this week, stopping over during a transatlantic flight.

Brad Blois and Taigh Ramey are flying from Vancouver Island to Belgium in a 1952 Beech 18 seaplane.

Blois is a Canadian bush pilot and Ramey owns a vintage aircraft company in California. They love flying the antique plane, which they say is much better quality than most modern aircraft.

"It comes from an era when they made airplanes by hand and with special care. It shows when you fly it. It's just a joy to fly," said Blois. "An older airplane has twice as many rivets and twice as many bolts as newer airplanes. That's why they're still here 50 years later."

The Royal Canadian Air Force used the aircraft as a navigation trainer for years, before it was sold and converted into a seaplane. It's been a popular seaplane on the west coast for two decades.

Blois and Ramey have been flying for around seven hours a day for the past three days. Their stopover in Labrador marked the halfway point of their journey.

Once in Belgium, the plane will be parked at large wildlife park and museum, where it will continue to fly.

The aircraft they are flying is one of few. There are less than a half dozen Beech 18 floatplanes operating in Canada and only around 200 Beech 18 planes left in the world.

Ramey said that while Beech 18s might be numbered, this plane will be in the skies for a long time.

"A lot of modern airplanes will be dead and gone and this one will still be around," he said.
