D-Day 70 – Pt.7 – Operation OVERLORD: VIII Fighter Command's Hun Hunters

by Elliott Marsh
Diving out of the sun from 10,000 feet at 400+ mph and screaming across German airfields at ground level, strafing aircraft and hangars as flak and small arms fire burst all around... This was the exhilarating, dangerous life of the fighter pilot tasked with taking the fight to the Luftwaffe on the ground in the wake of the Allies' heavy bomber offensive. Elliott Marsh tells the story of how the US Eighth Air Force's fighter boys continued the decimation of the Luftwaffe in the run up to D-Day.
