[Vintage_and_Warbirds_Pictures] 27th of December 1944

Aircraft of Australia Aviation Photography:
On the 27th of December 1944, the 437th Troop Carrier Group continued flying combat re-supply to Bastogne for the beleaguered paratroopers of the 101st Airborne Division.
However, for 2nd Lt Ernest Lanier and 2nd Lt Robert Waters from the 83rd Troop Carrier Squadron their mission would abruptly end during take off from Ramsbury Airfield. With six parapacks hung on their belly, their C-47 42-92863 required a higher take off speed. Confusion in the cockpit led to the undercarriage being retracted too early resulting in the C-47 slamming back down on the runway. When the right hand prop hit the runway, the C-47 veered off the runway and skidded to a halt on the frozen grass. None of the five crew were injured.
Joe Antrim was the 85th Troop Carrier Squadron's operations officer and was a keen photographer. He took a wonderful photograph of the accident using kodachrome colour film.
Photograph by Joe Antrim courtesy of Don Bolce and Thomas Potter whilst Neil Stevens and Roger Day provided information about the accident.

2017 Best of
I hate the end of year. This is the moment you need to look back and sometime you discover good or bad results.
We are ending the year with 30.000 visitors in December. It was a very busy year with very wet moments under the rain but also great time with friends, marvelous readings and great hopes for 2018.
Many thanks to all our readers, the friends sharing their marvellous contents and sending us links.
Some of you asked me if they need to pay something. No this is free but you can help the C119 project, you will make a lot of people happy including the public and maybe ... alight vocations in the young generations
Best of my pictures in 2017, a totally subjective choice. Thank you to the friends meet during these events, to the organizers, the pilots, the ground crews, the volunteers.
Without them, nothing is possible.
Waiting to meet you again in 2018 looking at the sky.
