This day in Pacific aviation history (April 18, 1942): a turning point in WWII, one of the most famous air raids in history, and a direct response to the Attack on Pearl Harbor, today marks the 72nd anniversary of the Doolittle Raid. Devised and led by Lt Col Jimmy Doolittle, 16 modified North American B-25B Mitchell bombers took off from the USS Hornet on this "extremely hazardous" mission.
