Boeing 787 Dreamliner van Jetairfly geland in Brussel

Op Brussels Airport is woensdagmiddag de nieuwe Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner van Jetairfly geland. Het vliegtuig arriveerde op de luchthaven na een rechtstreekse ferryvlucht vanuit Paine Field in Everett, even ten noorden van Seattle. Jetairfly krijgt de beschikking over één Dreamliner, die zal worden ingezet op vluchten naar het Caribisch Gebied.
De Boeing 787 van Jetairfly draagt de naam 'Diamond' en is voorzien van de registratie OO-JDL. Het toestel vervangt één van beide Boeing 767-300ER's van Jetairfly. Als eerste gaat Jetairfly de nieuwe aanwinst inzetten op korte vluchten. Na kerstmis volgen de eerste transatlantische routes.

Jetairfly is de Belgische luchtvaartmaatschappij van reisconcern TUI Travel. Die onderneming heeft in totaal vijftien Dreamliners besteld, waarvan er inclusief de 787 van Jetairfly er nu vijf afgeleverd zijn. De overige vier vliegen al bij het Britse Thomson Airways.
Jetairfly is de eeerste luchtvaartmaatschappij in de Benelux die met de 787 gaat vliegen. ArkeFly, de Nederlandse airline van TUI Travel, ontvangt in mei 2014 haar eerste van drie Boeing 787’s. KLM neemt naar verwachting eind 2015 haar eerste Dreamliner in ontvangst.  (Source: Luchtvaartnieuws)

Ryanair rekent op 1,5 miljoen passagiers op Brussels Airport

Luchtvaartmaatschappij Ryanair hoopt met zijn nieuwe aanbod op de luchthaven Brussels Airport jaarlijks 1,5 miljoen passagiers te kunnen ontvangen. Dat heeft Michael O’Leary, topman van Ryanair, gezegd bij de voorstelling van de plannen van het bedrijf op Brussels Airport. De Ierse budgetvlieger wil vanaf februari volgend jaar vanop de Brusselse luchthaven verbindingen opzetten met Alicante, Barcelona, Ibiza, Lissabon, Malaga, Palma, Porto, Rome, Valencia en Venetië. De verbindingen zouden ongeveer tweehonderd vluchten per week betekenen voor Brussels Airport. Volgens O’Leary zullen de activiteiten van de maatschappij op de luchthaven ruim vijftienhonderd banen kunnen creëren. Ryanair is de eerste budgetmaatschappij die zich op Brussels Airport vestigt. Brussel is de 62ste luchthaven in het netwerk van Ryanair. O’Leary benadrukte wel dat Charleroi de belangrijkste uitvalsbasis van de maatschappij in het noorden van Europa blijft. Royal fly-past to close Brussels Airport

No flights will be allowed to land or take off from Brussels Airport between 5pm and 6pm on Sunday.

The closure of airspace at the airport coincides with the fly-past marking the National Holiday and the swearing in of the new king, King Filip of the Belgians.

Some flights will be delayed by up to an hour. The airport authorities warn that delays make even occur after 6pm.
Flights at Brussels Airport should also be affected today, Tuesday, between 3pm and 4pm as the Belgian air force, rehearses for Sunday's military parade. If a second rehearsal is necessary, a similar closure of the airport might be required on Thursday.
Passengers who had expected to land or take off during the hours affected are being advised to seek more information from their carrier. Arrivals and departures are also posted on the Brussels Airport website.

Brussels Airport ziet aantal passagiers opnieuw toenemen

De luchtvaartmaatschappij FlyGeorgia biedt op luchthaven Brussels Airport twee keer per week een verbinding met de Georgische hoofdstad Tbilisi aan. Sectorgenoot Air Lituanica start vanaf eind juni zes keer per week een verbinding met de Litouwse hoofdstad Vilnius. Dat heeft de directie van Brussels Airport bekend gemaakt. De luchthaven wijst er ook op al enkele maanden een toename in het passagiersvervoer op te merken. In januari en februari werd nog een daling opgetekend, maar sindsdien kon onafgebroken een groei worden genoteerd. Daarbij zouden vooral de Europese vluchten en de lowcostsector goede resultaten hebben laten optekenen. Tijdens de maand mei werden op de luchthaven 0,7 procent meer passagiers ontvangen. Het aantal transferpassagiers kende een lichte daling, te wijten aan een verminderde activiteit van Jet Airways, maar bij de vertrekkende passagiers werd een groei met 2,1 procent opgetekend. (MH)

Jet Airways wil Brussel mogelijk inruilen voor Amsterdam

De Indiase luchtvaartmaatschappij Jet Airways overweegt om zijn activiteiten op Brussels Airport af te bouwen en over te hevelen naar Schiphol in Amsterdam. Dat heeft de topman van de Arabische luchtvaartgroep Etihad, de belangrijkste aandeelhouder van Jet Airways, gezegd. Brussels Airport is voor Jet Airways op dit ogenblik nog een vaste tussenstop op een aantal routes tussen India en Noord-Amerika. Die activiteit zou volgens James Hogan, topman van Etihad, echter mogelijk naar Amsterdam worden verschoven. Etihad werkt al nauw samen met de Frans-Nederlandse groep Air France-KLM, onderdeel van het samenwerkingsverband Sky Team, dat een sterke band heeft met Schiphol. Jet Airways is een belangrijke klant van Brussels Airport. De Indiase luchtvaartmaatschappij startte zes jaar geleden zijn activiteiten op de Belgische luchthaven, die als een potentieel belangrijke Europese draaischijf naar voor werd geschoven. Luchthaven Brussels Airport knoopt opnieuw aan met groei

Luchthaven Brussels Airport heeft tijdens de maand maart 1,45 miljoen passagiers ontvangen. Dat betekent een stijging met 1,4 procent tegenover dezelfde maand vorig jaar. De luchthaven knoopt daarmee voor de eerste keer sinds de maand augustus vorig jaar opnieuw met een groei aan. De toename was vooral te danken aan het toerisme, waar een groei met 8 procent werd geregistreerd. Opgemerkt wordt dat vele Belgen de strenge winter probeerden te ontvluchten en vakanties boekten naar klassieke topbestemmingen zoals de Canarische eilanden, Turkije en Marokko. Over het eerste kwartaal van het jaar diende nog wel een daling met 0,3 procent tot 3,75 miljoen reizigers gemeld te worden. Bij het vrachtverkeer werd tijdens de maand maart een daling met 17,4 procent tot 38.314 ton opgetekend. Jetairfly to Start Tour Operations with the Embraer E190

Jetairfly, the Belgian subsidiary of TUI Travel PLC (“TUI Travel”), one of the world’s leading leisure travel groups, has received the first of two EMBRAER 190 leased from BOC Aviation, the Singapore-based aircraft leasing company. The aircraft was delivered during a ceremony at Embraer’s headquarters in São José dos Campos, Brazil. The second E190 is due to follow during the first semester of 2013.

Jetairfly’s E190s are configured with 112 slim line seats in a single-class layout. The company plans to operate the aircraft from Brussels airport to various destinations in its European network including Faro in Portugal, Málaga in Spain, and Zakynthos in Greece.

“Not only are we welcoming a new customer to our portfolio of E-Jet operators, the airline’s selection is yet another endorsement of the versatility of the E-Jets product line”, said Paulo Cesar Silva, President and CEO, Embraer Commercial Aviation. “Jetairfly will deploy its E190s to offer its passengers more nonstop options more often and to more destinations.”

The delivery to Jetairfly broadens the range of business applications of E-Jets. The 70- to 120- seat, four-aircraft family is flying today with low fare airlines, in regional networks, with full-service mainline carriers and now with tour operators, like TUI Travel.

“We are very enthusiastic about welcoming this first EMBRAER 190 in Jetairfly’s fleet and start operations with this brand new aircraft. It will allow us to schedule new direct routes with one of the most eco-efficient aircraft, providing our passengers with a high level of comfort,” stated Elie Bruyninckx, Chairman of Jetairfly. “The E190 will help us to right size demand on some seasonal routes and lower our operational costs.”

Vliegtuigbewegingen Brussels Airport met 4,5 procent gedaald

Er zijn het voorbije jaar op luchthaven Brussels Airport 223.431 vliegtuigbewegingen geteld. Dat betekende een daling met bijna 4,5 procent tegenover het jaar voordien. Dat blijkt uit cijfers van luchtverkeersleider Belgocontrol. De luchthaven is daarmee teruggezakt tot het niveau van de eerste helft van de jaren negentig. Bij de eeuwwisseling werd een absolute piek van 325.979 vliegbewegingen opgetekend. Ondanks de daling blijkt het aantal passagiers vorig jaar toch met 1 procent te zijn gestegen tegenover het jaar voordien. Dat is het gevolg van een grotere capaciteit bij een aantal maatschappijen, die op grotere vliegtuigen zijn overgestapt. Uit de cijfers van Belgocontrol blijkt verder nog dat het voorbije jaar 14.648 nachtvluchten werden geteld. Dat betekent een status-quo tegenover het jaar voordien. Vier jaar geleden werd een maximumgrens van 16.000 nachtvluchten ingevoerd. Toen de Europese hub van DHL nog op Zaventem was gesitueerd, werden 25.100 nachtvluchten geteld. (MH)

Soon daily flight by Qatar Airways to Brussels

Qatar Airways has decided increase its flight frequency to Brussels to one daily. For the moment this is only 5 times a week. This was announced by Akbar al Baker, CEO of the company during a meeting with Belgian foreign Minister Didier Reynders at Doha. No date was yet announced when the increased frequency will be introduced. Qatar Airways flies to Brussels since early 2011 and wants to increase its flights to what the company calls the "Capital of Europe". De Qataris are also interested in the expansion of an African network for which Reynders proposed a collaboration with Brussels Airways, which serves a large number of African destinations. Ryanair denkt niet aan verhuis naar Brussels Airport

De Ierse luchtvaartmaatschappij Ryanair koestert geen enkele ambitie om vanuit zijn huidige basis in Charleroi te verhuizen naar Brussels Airport. Dat heeft de maatschappij gezegd in een reactie op berichten dat bij een eventueel faillissement van luchtvaartmaatschappij Brussels Airlines de leemte op de Brusselse luchthaven zou worden opgevangen door het aantrekken van Ryanair. De Ierse maatschappij benadrukt echter nauw verbonden te blijven met Charleroi, ongeacht de evoluties bij Brussels Airlines en Brussels Airport. Ryanair zegt zijn groeiplannen voor de luchthaven van Charleroi onlangs bevestigd te hebben, waardoor volgens de maatschappij de passagiersaantallen en werkgelegenheid op de Waalse luchthaven zullen blijven toenemen. Ryanair zegt verder dat de Belgische regering subsidies voor Brussels Airlines moet afwijzen. Financiering voor Brussels Airlines moet volgens Ryanair worden aangebracht door de Duitse groep Lufhansa, de belangrijkste aandeelhouder van de Belgische maatschappij. (MH)

Brussels Airport gaat met een aantal partners de volgende vijf jaar meer dan 200 miljoen euro investeren in Brucargo, de logistieke site op de Belgische luchthaven. De investering kan tegen het einde van het decennium mogelijk drieduizend extra banen opleveren. Dat heeft Arnaud Feist, chief executive van Brussels Airport, bekend gemaakt. Onder meer zullen drie grote vrachtgebouwen en twee grote afhandelingsgebouwen op de site worden ingeplant. Bovendien zullen een aantal oude gebouwen worden gerenoveerd tot moderne vrachtloodsen. Brussels Airport wil zich in het bijzonder toeleggen op het transport van farmaceutische producten. Er wordt aan toegevoegd dat voor de eerste keer ook een farmabedrijf op Brucargo zal worden gevestigd. Meer details over dat project werden echter nog niet bekend gemaakt. Arnaud Feist merkte nog op dat luchtvracht een belangrijke rol kan spelen in de verdere ontwikkeling van de Belgische economie en het creëren van bijkomende banen. (MH)

Brussels Airport ontvangt minder passagiers

Luchthaven Brussels Airport heeft tijdens de maand september 1,89 miljoen passagiers ontvangen. Dat betekende een daling met 0,1 procent tegenover dezelfde periode vorig jaar. Het is de eerste keer dit jaar dat de luchthaven een daling van het aantal passagiers moet aankondigen. Bovendien vertegenwoordigen de cijfers door het einde van de zomervakantie gevoelig meer aankomende dan vertrekkende reizigers. Het aantal aankomende reizigers steeg met 0,7 procent tot 0,98 miljoen eenheden, terwijl bij de vertrekkende passagiers een daling met 1,3 procent tot 0,91 miljoen mensen werd opgetekend. In deze groep vallen vooral dalingen met 19,7 procent bij de transitpassagiers, en 4 procent bij de transferpassagiers op. Deze categorieën vormden in het recente verleden de motor van de groei op de luchthaven van Zaventem. De vrachttrafiek kende een daling met 8,8 procent. Brussels Airport genoemd als nieuwe uitvalsbasis Aer Lingus

Brussels Airport wordt mogelijk een nieuwe uitvalsbasis voor de Ierse luchtvaartmaatschappij Aer Lingus. Dat heeft de Ierse lowcostmaatschappij Ryanair, dat Aer Lingus wil overnemen, laten verstaan. De budgetmaatschappij moet de Europese mededingingsautoriteiten ervan overtuigen dat de fusie geen dominantie zou creëren op de Ierse markt. Ryanair zou naar eigen zeggen bij een geslaagde overname ook een nieuwe thuisbasis voor Aer Lingus buiten Ierland willen creëren. Brussels Airport zou daarbij een optie zijn. Op dit ogenblik vliegt Aer Lingus vanuit Brussel enkel naar Ierse bestemmingen, maar daar zouden ook routes naar diverse Europese hoofdsteden kunnen bijkomen. Aer Lingus zou daarbij op het gebied van prijs de concurrentie aangaan met maatschappijen Brussels Airlines en Easyjet. Ryanair heeft al een belang van 30 procent in Aer Lingus en probeert al jaren zijn Ierse concurrent helemaal in te lijven. Swissport Acquires Flightcare Belgium & Spain

Swissport, the world’s leading provider of ground services to the aviation sector, is to acquire Flightcare Spain and Flightcare Belgium from FCC Versia, significantly expanding Swissport’s network in Spain and allowing it to become a full-service provider at Brussels Airport. The acquisitions of the Flightcare businesses in Spain and Belgium, which combined handled over 24 million passengers and approximately 287,000 tonnes of cargo in 2011, and employing around 3,000 staff, are great additions to Swissport’s network, due to their good reputation among customers and strong operational performance. 

Belgium has long been an important market for Swissport, and Swissport already provides cargo handling services at Brussels, Liege, and Antwerp airports. Swissport will now be able to offer clients ground handling services at Brussels Airport for the first time, in addition to its existing cargo business there. For the cargo division, this represents a great opportunity to grow the business further.

Flybe signs Brussels Airport contract

The Exeter-based company has agreed a two-year contract flying agreement with the Belgium airport. Pilots, cabin crew and engineering support will be provided by Flybe.

The aircraft will carry the livery of Brussels Airport but will operate under the Flybe Airline Operating Certificate.

Chairman and chief executive Jim French said: "The partnership with Brussels Airlines is an exciting development for Flybe and we are delighted to be working with such a respected European operator.

"It is also further confirmation of our reputation as a quality provider of professional turn-key solutions in the regional aviation market.

"Given the success of the identical partnership we had with Olympic Airline in 2009-10, we are confident that the partnership with Brussels Airlines will progress extremely well and also pave the way for further partnerships as we continue to seek to optimise the use of our existing fleet."

The airport reported an 18 per cent increase in revenue in the three months to 31 December 2011 with total sales of £165.5m.

Is Uplace at Machelen a threat to aviation?

Controversial development plans for a shopping centre cum cinema complex at Machelen outside Brussels are meeting opposition from a new quarter. Belgium's aviation authorities have now warned that a planned tower could pose a danger to aviation.

The Flemish authorities have already issued a building permit for Uplace, but have failed to consult the aviation authorities the Federal Government now warns. After complaints from local retailers the development that includes a 90 metre high tower is now also causing worries in aviation circles. Belgium's Aviation Directorate General believes that the tower could pose a danger to aviation. If built the tower would probably necessitate a rerouting of flight routes to and from Brussels Airport.

Belgian Transport Secretary Melchior Wathelet (Francophone Christian democrat) has voiced the concerns in a letter to Flemish Planning Minister Philippe Muyters (nationalist), but he insists that the aviation authorities had sufficient time to look at the plans.

Uplace still requires an environmental licence.
