Interesting site on the origins of flight
Just discovered a very interesting site on the origins of flight in the Champagne region with many references to Belgian pioneers.

One of the way the pioneers of aviation explored was to reproduce the flight of the birds.
Leonard Da Vinci and many others experimented varied solutions but no one was practical and finally the Wright brothers demonstrated the solution was fixed wings.
Today the technology permit to make the dream possible and the Festo company produce a robot which fly as a bird.
The invention is the demonstration of the capabilities of this company but could also have applications in the surveillance role with drones flying almost silently unnoticed by observers from the ground.
