video: "Beijing Aviation Museum 2009"

YouTube

The Beijing Aviation Museum is located about 40 miles north of Beijing near the town of Changping. See up close the very latest 'state of the art' 4th generation jet fighters like the J-10 and J-11.

The day before I was returning home to the UK, I was lucky enough to visit the Beijing Aviation museum on the day it reopened to the public. For lovers of military aircraft the museum it is a must see for anyone visiting China.

I must mention that on leaving the museum I was having great difficulty in finding transportation back to Beijing. Fortunately I was met by a very kind Chinese lady who gave me a lift to Changping city and then helped me find the right bus to Beijing. She was an absolute angel :-)

Battle Scars (Fairey Battle in Canada)

If the Fairey Battle is mostly remembered in Belgium for the dramatic raid on the bridges in May 1940, the aircraft played a major role in Canada for the training of air gunners

Ladies and Gentlemen Aviators

Powered by the same Merlin engine that drove early model Hurricanes, the Fairey Battle, with its much larger size and three crew members was woefully underpowered and inadequate in, of all things, a battle. Savaged by the Luftwaffe in the early part of the war, the type was pulled from frontline service, but found a useful role as a gunnery and bombing trainer in Canada's British Commonwealth Air Training Plan.
