Les signataires du manifeste apportent leur soutien pour la conservation et le retour du Charlesville (actuellement Georg Büchner). Ils soulignent le caractère tout à fait unique du navire, témoin de notre passé colonial ainsi que de notre passé de constructeur naval, d'armateur et d'opérateur portuaire. Il est également le témoin de l'histoire navale de l'Allemagne de l'Est. Ils sont persuadés du potentiel de cet unique héritage en tant que musée, attraction touristique, et projet économique et architectural. Etant donné l'urgence, nous n'avions que trois jours pour présenter notre manifeste et, malgré tout, 60 organisations ont répondus avec enthousiasme ! Cette deuxième édition sera souscrite par X organisations, sans compter les nombreux particuliers. Je remercie Mme Elisabeth Janssens aussi pour le travail effectuer concernant les logos des associations des anciens.

Puis-je demander aux associations ou sociétés qui n'ont pas encore envoyé leur logo de le faire très rapidement et ainsi soutenir le manifeste. Envoyez le directement à l'adresse secr@watererfgoed.be de "Watererfgoed Vlaanderen" ou bien à mon adresse si vous préférez.

Certaines organisations d'anciens coloniaux ont signé le manifeste sans envoyer leur logo ! Envoyez le vite pour donner plus de valeur au manifeste !

U krijgt ook een overzicht van de bedrijven of verenigingen die het manifest voor de terugkeer van de Charlesville reeds ondertekende via deze link : Manifest Charlesville update 12-03-2013 .

De ondergetekende van het manifest steunen het behoud en de terugkeer naar België van de laatste Kongoboot Charlesville (thans Georg Büchner). Zij onderlijnen de uniciteit van dit schip als getuige van het scheepsbouw-, rederij-, haven- en kolonieverleden van ons land en als getuige van de Oost-Duitse scheepvaartgeschiedenis, en geloven in het museaal, toeristisch, stedenbouwkundig en bedrijfseconomisch potentieel van dit uitzonderlijke stuk erfgoed. Wegens de acute bedreiging van het schip stond dit manifest slechts drie dagen voor ondertekening open. Op drie dagen tijd reageerden meer dan 60 organisaties zeer enthousiast. Deze tweede editie van het Manifest is onderschreven door XXX organisaties
en talrijke, hier niet vermelde particulieren. Ik dank hiervoor Mevrouw Elisabehh Janssens voor haar inzet i.v.m. het manifest van Watererfgoed Vlaanderen.

Mag ik vragen aan de verenigingen of bedrijven die hun logo nog niet opstuurde en het manifest willen ondersteunen dit alsnog te doen.  U kan dit doen door mij  persoonlijk te mailen  maar liefst  naar watererfgoed Vlaanderen in dit geval op dit adres secr@watererfgoed.be .


Enkele verenigingen van oud kolonialen of kinderen steunden het manifest maar stuurden nog geen logo !  Stuur het zo vlug mogelijk op  aan het secretariaat van Watererfgoed Vlaanderen.

Space Event 2013 05 25 & 26 De Pool Ruimte opent de deuren

Op zaterdag 25 en zondag 26 mei 2013 opent de Pool Ruimte zijn deuren voor het grote publiek. De Pool Ruimte bevindt zich aan de Ringlaan in Ukkel en is de thuisbasis van de Koninklijke Sterrenwacht van België (KSB), het Belgisch Instituut voor Ruimte-Aëronomie (BIRA) en het Koninklijk Meteorologisch Instituut (KMI).

Space : Proba-V en Vega klaar voor lancering

De in België gebouwde Proba-V satelliet werd op 22 april 2013 samen met twee andere satellieten naar het lanceerplatform gebracht op de Europese lanceerbasis in Frans-Guyana waar het trio bovenop de Vega draagraket werd bevesigd. Het lanceerbedrijf Arianespace liet ondertussen ook weten dat de lanceerdatum van de Proba-V satelliet met 24 uur werd uitgesteld.

De tweede Europese Vega raket is nu helemaal geassembleerd en staat klaar op het ELV lanceercomplex op de Europese lanceerbasis in Frans-Guyana, Zuid-Amerika. De volgende dagen zal de raket en de lanceerinfrastructuur onderworpen worden aan een laatste reeks van controles en tests waarna men het licht op groen zal zetten voor de uiteindelijke lancering. Deze tweede Vega missie is de eerste van vijf zogenaamde VERTA-missies (Vega Research and Technology Accompaniment) waarmee men de nieuwe draagraket maximaal wil demonstreren en testen. Na deze vijf VERTA-missies moet Vega klaar zijn voor de commerciële markt. De kleine, nieuwe Europese draagraket moet tijdens deze tweede missie Proba-V samen met de Vietnamese VNREDSat 1a aardobservatiesatelliet en de nanosatelliet ESTCube 1, afkomstig uit Estland, tot in een lage polaire baan om de Aarde brengen. De 30 meter lange Vega bestaat uit vier rakettrappen waarvan de eerste drie gebruikmaken van een vastebrandstofmotor. Bovenop de derde trap bevindt zich de Attitude and Vernier Upper Module trap (AVUM) die wordt aangedreven op vloeibare brandstof. Deze trap brengt de satellieten uiteindelijk tot in de juiste baan om de Aarde.
Het Europese lanceerbedrijf Arianespace, dat verantwoordelijk is voor de lanceringen van alle Ariane 5 en Vega raketten, heeft op 25 april laten weten dat de lancering van de tweede Vega met 24 uur werd uitgesteld. De reden voor het uitstel ligt aan het feit dat men extra controles wil uitvoeren aan de lanceerinfrastructuur.

The Electra (at this time under the colours of the Hunting group) graced the skies of Brussels on the Sunday afternoon during the late 1990's.
The noises of the Electras engines was typical and on 18:00, every sundays, 1 to 3 elegant Electra were taking off from Zaventem

Voici retrouvee recemment la "full page " que le Los Angeles Times avait consacree a ma premiere illustration du cockpit du Spirit of St. Louis.
C'etait peu apres notre arrivee a Los Angeles et cette parution a 2 millions 500 mille exemplaires m'a fait connaitre  dans le milieu aviation pratiquement immediatement.
Mon premier client des apres la parution a ete la Howard Hughes Company.

Je continue a plancher sur ma nouvelle illustration, beaucoup plus complete.

PS: Je m'etais precipite a la poste pour faire obliterer le timbre "Spirit of St. Louis" qui celebrait le cinquantenaire du vol historique.

Belgium's top balloon-busting ace, Willy Coppens, would drop down from on high, his Hanriot HD-1 fighter plane swooping in toward his favorite target -- a German artillery observation balloon, the type known as a "sausage" or "dragon".  Time and again, his deadly fire would hit the German balloons, igniting their gas bags into an inferno of hydrogen.  Then, as fast as he had come, he would veer away and back across the lines while German anti-aircraft artillery would fire pointlessly in his wake.  In the summer of 1918, he knocked down dozens of balloons and became the recognized master of the art, a skill known on both sides of the lines. If anything, his plane was unmistakable since he had it painted in blue and emblazoned the fuselage sides with the symbol of a thistle sprig wearing a top hat.  Recognizing the deadly killer as he came, again and again, the Germans finally decided that he had to be taken down.  Carefully, they developed a plan.  They would pack a balloon with explosives and winch it into the skies, then wait for him to come.  When he did, they would wait until he was near enough, making his attack pass, and then they would trigger the bomb, destroying not only the unmanned decoy balloon but killing Coppens as well. Everything was prepared.  The Germans put the balloon into the skies -- and they waited, certain that this time, they would get him. C'est avec plaisir que le club "Les Accros Du Servo" de Gembloux, vous convie à notre meeting annuel.

Vous trouverez sur l'affiche ci-jointe les coordonnées du terrain.

Au planning, le samedi 25 mai de 14 à 18h, acceuil des modélistes et vols libres d'entraînement (panneau des fréquences). Seul la vente de boissons sera ouverte.

Le samedi soir à partir de 18h, repas "tiré du sac" sur le terrain avec tous les modélistes et leurs familles. Un barbecue sera prêt et disponible, tout comme la vente de boissons.

Le dimanche 26 mai de 10 à 18h, démonstrations d'aéromodélisme pour le public local (vols libres, tente de fréquences). Vente de boissons, pain saucisses (barbecue) et frites disponible.

En espérant vous y voir, nous vous souhaitons un bon week-end et de bons vols.

The Netherlands has decided to place both its F-35As in temporary storage at Edwards Air Force Base while the government decides on how to replace RNLAF F-16s.

Both aircraft will be flown occasionally by U.S. Air Force pilots to keep them airworthy.

Happy Birthday FX-04

This Saturday April 20th, 2014, Beauvechain's 1st Wing Historical Center (1WHC) unveiled an exhibition commemorating the arrival of the first Lockheed F-104 G Starfighter at what was then the 1st Fighter Wing of the Belgian Air Force.

In his opening address, the President of the “Golden Falcon” stressed the importance of this event in the history of the air base. Colonel (ret.) Georges Castermans, one of the most famous Belgian Starfighter pilots explained the significant step in technology the F-104 G represented. At that time, the Belgian Air Force was transitioning from the classic Hawker Hunter, to the most advanced supersonic fighter in the west.

A photo exhibition about the Starfighter was inaugurated by the Belgian Chief of Defence, General Gerard Van Caelenberg and the Dany Van de Ven, President of the 1WHC.

Family members of Lieutenant-Colonel 'Steve' Cailleau, who delivered the first Starfighter in Beauvechain on April 18th, 1964 unveiled a plaque near the Museum's entrance

 The first Starfighter to arrive in Beauvechain was the FX-04, now splendidly preserved as a gate guardian near the entrance of the Museum after a rich career in the Belgian Air Force. To remember the 50th anniversary of the arrival the “missile with a man in it” was decorated with a special crest

The exhibition is open to the public for the coming months.
