Another airworthy Mosquito takes shape.

In the comments section for our recent story on the first flight of the world's only flying Mosquito, Warbirds News reader Paul Smith, tipped us off about another Mosquito that will soon be returning to the air. In a long-running restoration effort the crew at Victoria Air Maintenance, Ltd. in North Saanich, near Victoria, British Columbia have gotten a de Havilland Mosquito whipped into shape in preparation for a return to the skies over western Canada.

Aeroplane Monthly Mosquito for sale

MAM to sell off collection

In mid-June, a spokesman for The Military Aviation Museum (MAM) at Virginia Beach told Aeroplane that the 70+ First and Second World War aircraft in its collection are up for sale, and the museum will shut up shop later this year. This shock development came just a month after the MAM's de Havilland Mosquito FB.26, KA114, made its American debut at the MAM's Warbirds Over the Beach show, following its arrival from New Zealand (see Aeroplane, December 2012).
Sadly, inclement weather over the May 17-18 weekend led to a severely truncated flying programme at the Warbirds Over the Beach show, but the Mosquito flew from the MAM's grass strip on May 16 in front of enthusiasts from all over the world, who had travelled to Virginia for this very special occasion.

North American Dates Set for Mosquito

AVwebFlash

Januaryt 7, 2013

The only flying De Havilland Mosquito will have a busy schedule in North
America this summer, according to its owner Jerry Yagen of the Fighter
Factory. As we reported earlier (http://tinyurl.com/b879vp8), the
reconstructed Mosquito, which flew for the first time in September, has made
several public appearances in New Zealand where AVspecs, the company that
did the restoration, is based.

Sometime this spring, the aircraft, which was originally built in Canada,
will be shipped to North America and Yagen said it will be at a lot of
airshows this coming season, including his own Warbirds Over the Beach
(http://tinyurl.com/al9wxml) in Virginia Beach May 17-19.

It will also make an appearance not far from the factory where it was built.
The Mosquito will headline the Hamilton Air Show June 15-16. Hamilton is
about 30 miles west of Toronto, where the original aircraft was built. In
addition to its solo performance, the Mosquito will join a formation flight
of warbirds that will include the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum's
Lancaster bomber along with a Spitfire and a Hurricane. There will also be a
gathering of Mosquito pilots.
