Le Soir : Number one on the army’s list of concerns, Belgium has no choice but to replace its F-16 fighters

General Caelenberge deems that it's no longer possible to update the current fighters.
The budgetary and industrial impact of this upgrade alone will extend beyond the defense sector.

Even if Belgium replaced only half of its present F-16 fleet of 64 fighters at €75 million each, the expense would reach the €2.4 billion mark, almost the entire army budget. What if over the period of one year, all the police officers, firefighter and magistrate salaries, all the Interior and Justice departments expenses were absorbed by a single military purchase such as around thirty F-35 Lightning II fighters?

Earlier in the year I mention that two undeveloped films had been found in Montana. I am delighted to say that these have now been accessed and approx 90 images have been created after 70 years !!.  The images are the copyright of Stefan Tarzan who has allowed for these to be added to OBS

Een vliegtuig met verschillende personen aan boord die gingen parachutespringen, is deze namiddag neergestort in Marchovelette (Fernelmont, provincie Namen). Volgens burgemeester Jean-Claude Nihoul zijn er elf doden gevallen, tien parachutisten en de piloot. Er zouden geen overlevenden zijn.

 

Het zou gaan om een vliegtuig dat vertrokken was vanop het vliegveld van Temploux. De parachutisten zouden in de omgeving van Fernelmont worden gedropt.
 

 "Ik zag een vliegtuigje hoogte verliezen in volle vlucht, en het crashte met veel lawaai", meldt een ooggetuige aan RTL. De brandweer van Namen is iets voor 16.00 uur opgeroepen. De brandweer van Eghezée is eveneens ter plaatse. Volgens de brandweer kwam het toestel neer in een veld op korte afstand van woningen. Die werden niet geraakt.

Volgens de burgemeester zijn er in de buurt van het neergestorte vliegtuigje drie geopende parachutes gevonden. Dat zou er op kunnen wijzen dat drie personen nog getracht hebben om zich te redden.

Het parket van Namen begeeft zich naar de plaats van het ongeval en wil momenteel nog geen commentaar geven. Verdere bijzonderheden ontbreken dus nog.

Wings Parade at Beauvechain airbase on 17 October 2013

On Thursday 17 October 2013, twelve new pilots have received their wings from Comopsair Commander Major Gen Claude Van de Voorde. Seven of them have received the specialised "Jet" training syllabus to become a fighter pilot, a single pilot is to become a transport pilot, while the three others are future helicopter pilots. The promotion has taken Capt Georges Jaspis - DFC (609 Squadron RAF) as godfather.

"Jet" course: 
Lt Renaud Petitjean, Olt Lt Floris Kocken (Nl.), Olt Ralp Claessen (Nl.), Olt Julien de Soignies, Olt, Antoine Geyr, Olt Xavier Remacle, Olt Gert-Jan Van Cauwenbergh and Olt Joris Waterschoot.
"Transport" Course:
Lt Gilles Van Dyck (Luxembourg)
"Helicopter" course:
Kpt Katleen T'Hooft, Lt Stijn Soenens and Olt Jens Loobuyck

Toujours en difficulté financière, la compagnie belge Brussels Airlines mise plus que jamais sur le continent africain malgré la concurrence.
Le ciel de l'Afrique est plein de promesses.
