SBAP update 02-02-2022

Dear aviation enthusiast,

SBAP update 02-02-2022

This week on SBAP web site

Events:

Brussels Airport: January Air Traffic (Belgium)
January was a quiet month for Brussels Airport, as far as special visitors are concerned.
This was fortunate because the weather was not at his best, except for some lonely days.
In short, the weather was mixed and mainly foggy with sometimes a low cloud cover.
A pure Belgian winter weather, but let's look back at the highlights of the month

Speed look @ Liège Airport (Belgium)
Why drive to spend only a short morning to see some planes?
Simply to capture at least one of them, a rarity in our skies and on our runways,
I named the Antonov An-124-100 registered UR-ZYD in the colours of Maximus Air Cargo,
a company originating from the United Arab Emirates.
Presented by Serge Van Heertum

Ebenfluh and C° (Switzerland)
We got up early to start the climb to an altitude of 2320 m to the Axalp-Ebenfluh-installation
of the Swiss Air Force with the help of a torch and the last light of the moon.
The weather is beautifully calm and we just enjoy the silence and the rising of the sun.
The sign Shiessgefahr / flieger - schiessen , yes, we are approaching our destination.

Brussels Airport: October Air Traffic
What should we remember from this month of October? Certainly the arrival of two new
planes in the Belgian civilian fleet, the first one is the Airbus A330-941 NEO of Air Belgium
Airlines bearing the OO-ABG registration and then the new Boeing B737-8 MAX in TUI colors
and bearing OO-TMZ registration.

Chievres Air Fest 2021
It took 25 years, or a quarter of a century, for the base under American control at Chièvres
to open its doors to the public. The information received from the Base Commander stated
that the 2021 edition was a small-scale test run to assess the interest and feasibility on a
larger scale in the years to come.

Dear aviation enthusiast,

This week on SBAP web site

Events:

Bye Bye Alouette
On July 8th, 2021, the last two Alouette III of the Air Component performed their last flights.
The editorial staff is sure that you have seen countless pictures and often the same ones of
this historic and emotionally charged day for the crews through social media.
Our goal is not comparable and after reflection, it seemed more appropriate to wait and
return to the subject with a more historical approach in order to better highlight the men and
machines that lived together for half a century.
Presented by Serge Van Heertum

Brussels Airport: July Air Traffic
The month of July, ahhhh summer vacation… not to be missed!
This summer movement has of course brought its share of charter flights with unusual
planes in the region and caused the traffic to increase tenfold.
Heuuuu… The Covid crisis is over?

2 Wing Tac… By day and by night
In our small country an event was awaited with fervour and impatience, I named the
Belgian Air Force Days 2021. Oh sure, everyone knew that it would not be the international
show like the ones of yesteryear, but it was the occasion for many to set foot on an airbase
again and watch those flying machines in action. Alas, three times alas, the pandemic was
already going and finally a simple day dedicated for the photographers (max 400) was
organized by the authorities and the personnel of Florennes airbase with access from
13.00 hours to 23.00 hours to finish with a night shoot.

Friday March 5th, 2021, a special day at Kleine Brogel airbase for one of the pilots of
the 31st "Tigers" squadron. Indeed, for Commander Aviator Steven De Vries, better

Dear aviation enthusiast,

This week on SBAP web site:

Events:

Blue Wings & Magdays 2020
It is obvious that the month of August 2020 will have marked the contemporary history of
the Federal Republic of Germany through the arrival of the Hebrew State Air Force.
Indeed, as part of two separate exercises, six F-16 "Barak", as well as some other planes
adorned with the blue Star of David on a white background, moved from Israel to Germany,
particularly to the airbase of Nörvenich in Nordrhein-Westfalen where they were hosted from
August 17th till August 28th. Follow us to meet them !

Meeting with Thomas Du Caju
In 2018, the 349th squadron of the Belgian Air Force called on Thomas De Caju and his
sidekick Jean-Claude Van Rijkeghem to illustrate a comic book commemorating the
75 years of existence of this unit (1942-2017). The work in question was published in 2018
in a standard color version with a circulation of 500 copies and a luxury black & white
version with 333 copies. Thanks to the kind invitation of the "Jaune 2" bookstore, which is
based in the city of Wavre, we were able to meet Thomas De Caju. But who is he?

This week on SBAP web site:

Events:
Brussels Airport: Covid-19 Flts (Part 20)Brussels Airport arrivals and departures between 16-08-2020 and 23-08-2020
Another week has passed with a few surprises and traffic that can be described as "normal"
in this time of health crisis.
On Monday August 24th, the completely renovated runway 07L / 25R will set back into service,
one more step towards a return to normal airport operations. We will no longer be releasing a
page each week, but offer a monthly selection of the most interesting planes that will have put
their wheels on Brussels Airport runways.
Also, we will be back with military reports with some of the most interesting, even exotic subjects.
Continue to take care of yourself and others.

Dear aviation enthusiast,

This week on SBAP web site:

Events:
Brussels Airport: Covid-19 Flts (Part 18)Brussels Airport arrivals and departures between 02-08-2020 and 08-08-2020Here is another interesting week with among other things the daily visit of the Hungarian Air Force.
Civilian transport continues, charters go back and forth all day long and our beloved friend
Corona is back in force ... Why would you say ... The answer is a few lines above,
man, the superior being, the smarter than the animals (supposedly) does not keep still,
he has to go imperatively on vacation, he has to earn more money and all this without scruples
to put the rest of the world in danger of death…
Is the death of a loved one worth a deckchair by a swimming pool or a few euros more.
It seems that answer is yes for some!
Take care of yourself and the others if you don't want to live a second year of slump
(unfortunately she is on the right track ...)
