Ce lundi vers 10h30, le "scénario Beauvechain" s'est confirmé. Un avion danois a atterri le matin à Beauvechain, un autre en provenance de Roumanie l'a suivi vers 10h30.

Discover the Veys Collection

Collection Philippe Veys

In August 2011, the collection Philippe Veys was given to the Brussels Air Museum Funds to be preserved digitally and put at the disposal of the aviation researchers.

Philippe Veys collaborated with many newspapers before World War 2 and collected documents about aviation. The Belgian Aviation History Library was selected for her capability to convert great quantities of paper to digital archives permitting easy access and the diffusion of this collection, the result of many years of hard labour of an Aviation Enthusiast.

We are proud to publish these documents and share them with the aviation community.

Problem with the arrival of European chefs of governments for the Brussels Summit on Monday January 30th

Due to the national strike on next Monday, the arrival of the aircraft transporting the delegation to the European summit in Brussels face problems as the Brussels airport is supposed to be closed. The Belgian government refuse to confirm the aircraft will be routed to Beauvechain air base, 30 km of the European Capital.

Belgische militairen op de basis van Bevekom. 

De staats- en regeringsleiders die maandag de buitengewone Europese top in Brussel moeten bijwonen, zullen mogelijk landen op de luchthaven van Bevekom. De regering overweegt de luchthaven te gebruiken als de algemene staking Brussels Airport platlegt. Er zijn evenwel een hoop praktische problemen, klinkt het uit eensluidende bronnen.

La dépouille d'un pilote américain retrouvée à Saint-Vith et rapatrié 67 ans après sa mort

L'été dernier, l'armée américaine a fouillé le sol de Saint-Vith à la recherche de Roy (Grenz Echo)

Touchante histoire que celle de Dawn Johnson. Cette archéologue américaine est la nièce d'un pilote américain abattu en décembre 1944 au-dessus de la forêt de Saint-Vith. Après plusieurs années de combat, elle a enfin pu rapatrier la dépouille de son oncle.

4.000 soldats américains venus combattre en Belgique durant la seconde guerre mondiale ne sont jamais rentrés au pays. En réalité, leurs corps n'ont pas été retrouvés. C'était le cas, jusqu'il y a peu, de Roy Johnson. Ce jeune pilote américain de 20 ans est mort la veille de Noël en 1944. Il survolait alors la forêt du côté de Saint-Vith quand il a été pris pour cible par un convoi allemand. Le froid et la neige empêchent alors toutes recherches, il est déclaré disparu, probablement mort.
