The British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) in Canada was an important contribution to the victory of the Allies. Thousand of young peoples were trained in the North American. Amongst them some Belgians. This video explains what was the BCATP as well how this achievement is remembered today.

India selected the Dassault Rafale as her next generation fighter. 126 aircraft will be ordered.
This is the first order for the French aircraft. Until now, it was heavy doubts about the export potential of this state of art but very expensive multirole aircraft. The Rafales of both Armée de l'air and Marine nationale are regular visitors on Belgian air bases for exercises. The Rafale is also on show on many airshows in Belgium and France with incredible demonstrations of agility.

J'ai l'honneur de porter à votre connaissance l'accord donné par la Commune d'Ellezelles aux associations patriotiques locales pour ériger, à Wodecq, une stèle commémorant la chute d'un B 24 américain, le 14 juin 1944, et soulignant, par la même occasion, le geste héroïque de son pilote, le lieutenant Floyd E. ADDY, qui préféra rester aux commandes de son avion pour épargner le centre du village plutôt que de sauter comme le firent ses neuf compagnons d'équipage dans la région de Lessines et de Ath.
De suite, les responsables des associations patriotiques, Messieurs DERBRAISE et VAN LITHAUT pour Ellezelles et Madame GOEFFERS pour Wodecq, firent montre d'un enthousiasme qui les honore ; ils auront à cœur de porter ce projet qui ira de la construction d'un monument jusqu'à son inauguration.
Plusieurs personnes dont Monsieur Philippe SAVE m'ont affirmé que vous étiez, Madame, la personne la plus méritante et le mieux placée pour annoncer cette nouvelle aux autorités américaines du Shape qui en seront certainement contentes.
Mon intérêt pour ce projet de commémoration date de plusieurs années. Par le plus grand des hasards, je fus le premier témoin de la chute de cet avion et ma maman fut la première, sinon la seule, à déposer un bouquet de fleurs champêtres sur le corps désarticulé du pilote avant qu'il ne soit emporté par des soldats allemands. Les documents que je joins à la présente relatent la journée d'un gamin de 4 ans, moi en l'occurrence, et la dernière mission de ce B 24.
Il me semble que Wodecq ne pouvait passer sous silence le geste de ce jeune américain. Je me révolte quand je vois que notre devoir de reconnaissance et de mémoire s'estompe sous le prétexte que les faits se sont passés il y a maintenant 68 ans.
Pareil projet , même si nous voulons qu'il reste à la mesure d'une petite commune rurale, a un coût que les associations patriotiques pourront difficilement supporter, car leurs rangs s'éclaircissent !… Sitôt l'autorisation accordée, l'administration communale les a prévenues qu'elles n'avaient aucune aide à attendre d'elle…
La situation se présente comme suit : Outre la pierre qui a été offerte par les carrières de Lessines grâce à l'intervention d'un habitant de Wodecq, Bernard RASMONT, je prends à ma charge les frais de la plaque commémorative qui y sera fixée. Resteront donc à supporter les frais d'aménagement du site et la petite réception qui suivra son inauguration.
Loin de moi l'idée de solliciter le concours du Shape. Je sais qu'il n'a pas de budget prévu pour ce genre de projet et de manifestation, ce que je peux comprendre. L'Amérique a donné un de ses fils pour que nous retrouvions notre liberté, ce n'est pas à elle de financer, sur une terre étrangère, la construction d'un monument à sa mémoire.
Compte-tenu de vos fonctions auprès du Shape, vous avez certainement déjà rencontré pareille situation. Aussi, vous serais-je infiniment reconnaissant de bien vouloir me donner vos avis et conseils et de m'indiquer à quels services publics ou associations je pourrais m'adresser pour obtenir un petit soutien financier.
Convaincu que ma lettre retiendra toute votre attention, j'espère avoir le plaisir de vous lire bientôt et vous prie de croire, Madame à l'assurance de mes sentiments les meilleurs.
