Collection Philippe Veys updated

In August 2011, the collection Philippe Veys was given to the Brussels Air Museum Funds to be preserved digitally and put at the disposal of the aviation researchers.

Philippe Veys collaborated with many newspapers before World War 2 and collected documents about aviation. The Belgian Aviation History Library was selected for her capability to convert great quantities of paper to digital archives permitting easy access and the diffusion of this collection, the result of many years of hard labour of an Aviation Enthusiast.

We are proud to publish these documents and share them with the aviation community.

If you want to use these documents, please mention Collection Philippe Veys.

Currently more than 100 documents are scanned. Hereafter you will find the list of these documents. Some are already available on the web. Just click on the link to have access.

The copies available for download are compressed (150 dpi)  to speed up the transfer. If you need a better copy (the original scan are in 300 or 600 dpi), please contact us.

Les 26 et 27 mai prochain, notre association ''Anciens Aérodromes'' sera présente simultanément sur deux meeting/expo.

Proville (prés de Cambrai):

Il s'agit d'une exposition consacré au modélisme, organisé par nos collègues d'Aerakit.

Le stand sera tenu par Valdemar Knopik avec l'aide de Olivier Lefer et Olivier Geoffroy. Nous présenterons sur ce stand : nos livres, des panneaux de photos sur la reconstruction de Cambrai-Niergnies aux normes Otan (Fonds Daniel Carré), des photos de la Chasse Française en 39-40 (Fonds Lionel Persyn).

La Ferté Alais :

Présence de notre association sur ce grand meeting aux côtés de nos collégues de l'association Mémorial Normandie-Niemen. Présentation de nos livres, panneau sur l'aérodrome de Tourmignies( 1erGM dept du Nord), A3 de l'expo de Merville, photo du travail en cours sur la modélisation 3D de l'ex base de Reims (Jean-Philippe Ferand) et photos de la base aéronavale de Rochefort (Philippe Mauffrey).

Vous pouvez donc venir nous rencontrer sur l'un de ces deux événements selon vos disponibilités et proximité géographique !

Space : Proba 1 ziet nieuwe sterren

Proba-1 'ziet' opnieuw echte sterren

Na meer dan tien jaar in een baan om de Aarde begon de eerste in België gebouwde Project for Onboard Autonomy (Proba) satelliet de laatste weken en maanden steeds meer af te zien van zijn leeftijd. Toch is men erin geslaagd de kleine microsatelliet opnieuw perfect operationeel te krijgen door Proba-1 te voorzien van nieuwe software die ontwikkeld werd door de Technical University of Denmark (DTU). Als gevolg van de jarenlange inwerking van schadelijke kosmische straling op de gevoelige instrumenten aan boord van Proba-1 begonnen er problemen op te treden met de zogeheten 'sterzoekers'. Deze instrumenten zijn essentieel voor de autonome oriëntatie van de kleine satelliet aangezien het ruimtetuig de sterren gebruikt als herkenningspunten. De kosmische straling zorgde er echter voor dat de sterzoekers het verschil niet meer konden opmerken tussen echte sterren en zogeheten 'hot pixels' die veroorzaakt werden door de schadelijke straling. Dankzij de nieuwe software uit Denemarken zijn de sterzoekers aan boord van Proba-1 opnieuw in staat om het verschil te herkennen waardoor de levensduur van de satelliet ongetwijfeld werd verlengd. Proba-1 werd oorspronkelijk ontwikkeld en op 22 oktober 2001 gelanceerd als technologische demonstratiesatelliet maar het project groeide al gauw uit tot een zeer succesvolle aardobservatiemissie. De door Verhaert Space uit Kuibeke (nu QinetiQ Space) gebouwde satelliet leverde al honderden foto's en meetgegevens voor wetenschappers van over de hele wereld. De kracht achter het succes van deze missie zit in de autonome werking van de satelliet. Zo moeten vluchtleiders in ESA's volgstation in Redu enkel maar geografische coördinaten van een te fotograferen gebied doorsturen naar de satelliet waarna deze zich op eigen kracht positioneert om vervolgens de juiste opname te kunnen maken.

Les 26 et 27 mai prochain, le Meeting aérien de la Ferté Alais, 50 km au sud de Paris sur la commune de Cerny, fêtera ses 40 ans. L'occasion pour les éditions Paquet, partenaire de l'événement, de réaliser un ouvrage collectif regroupant une trentaine d'illustrateurs.
Voici un petit "making of" de certaines illustrations.
L'album sera disponible fin mai, lors du Meeting, et dans toutes les bonnes librairies.
