" Un mal nécessaire ", c'est l'expression employée depuis 1945 par les défenseurs du recours à l'arme atomique contre les populations civiles de Hiroshima et Nagasaki. Depuis près de 65 ans, elle résume le discours dominant sur ce moment clé du XXe siècle. D'un côté, les témoignages poignants des survivants irradiés, les hibakusha. De l'autre, une lecture de l'histoire qui conditionne la fin de la guerre au recours de la bombe atomique.

From September 8, 2011 till January 31, 2012 the Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and of Military History presents a highly topical exhibition: 11 September 2001/2011. Marec/Vadot. A turbulent decade in 100 cartoons. Through their cartoons Marec and Vadot illustrate milestones in a turbulent decade: from the 9-11 attacks till the death of Bin Laden. They hardly know each other, but admire each other’s work all the same. They never worked by mutual agreement, but their drawings magically interconnect, as if there is a special way in which to draw the world. We don’t wish to provide answers, but through the drawings of our sharp-witted cartoonists we are able to place events in perspective. With their biting cynicism Marec and Vadot make us think and help us understand how and when the world shifte

Op 13 september 1986 ondertekenden de Stad Peer en de toenmalige 10de Jagerbommenwerperswing (10 JBW) het peterschapsverdrag. Vandaag, 25 jaar later, resulteert de samenwerking tussen peter Stad Peer en petekind 10 W Tac in een nauwe samenwerking met wederzijds begrip en gezamenlijke activiteiten waaronder de jaarlijkse MS-actie.

We willen dit zilveren jubileum niet ongemerkt laten voorbij gaan en vieren dit op vrijdag 30 september met een parade (16u00) en groot Promsconcert (20u30) op de Vliegbasis met de Koninklijke Harmonie van Peer en de Koninklijke Muziekkapel van de Luchtmacht, twee toporkesten en twee belangrijke ambassadeurs van peter en petekind.

De twee orkesten krijgen op het podium gezelschap van Nicole & Hugo, Barbara Dex en Perenaar Salim Seghers.

Tijdens het concert zal ook een cheque van 40.000 euro overhandigd worden door de verschillende organisatoren van de MS-acties aan een afgevaardigde van de Vlaamse MS-Liga.

For the fun :  For spying the activities in DDR, the USAF used some very sophisticated aircraft. The RAF, in her pure tradition, used some pragmatic solutions. DH Chipmunks used to keep flying "office pilots" were modified to take pictures (successfully) when flying between the Berlin corridor between the town the bases in western Germany.

As soon as the WW2 ended, some US units flying Piper Cubs were immediately reconverted to drop & pick up secret agents in the soviet zone of occupation in eastern Europe. A very dangerous job and an history still to be written.

De la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale à la chute du Mur de Berlin, l'espace aérien de la RDA fut le cadre d'une âpre lutte entre Américains et Soviétiques.

"Berlin vaut le voyage !", déclarait un slogan touristique du temps de la guerre froide. Difficile d'en douter, au vu des 25 000 vols d'espionnage photographique réalisés par les forces militaires américaines et britanniques sur le territoire de la RDA, à partir des couloirs aériens de ravitaillement vers Berlin-Ouest !
