Conservation and Restoration, the Italian way

One of the most important roles the Museum plays is to conserve and protect Italy’s aviation historical heritage. The main task of the Restoration and Maintenance Section responsible for this and made up of highly qualified technical personnel from the Italian Air Force, is to preserve historical objects in their entirety as far as possible through a continuing programme of ordinary maintenance and restoration. Even though it is part of a modern Armed Force, its expert personnel have a background of intimate knowledge and understanding of the arts and crafts involved, learning the trade in the same unique and traditional way as in the old craftsmen’s shops by working alongside older and more experienced tradesmen.
