[AELR] C-119 - Heropening - Réouverture

Dames en Heren,
Beste vrienden,
Door uw donaties, uw hulp, uw actie, heeft u bijgedragen aan de restauratie van de C-119 in de Luchtvaarthal en zodoende opnieuw de openstelling van het vliegtuig voor het publiek mogelijk gemaakt.
Dit werk werd uitgevoerd dankzij een nauwe samenwerking tussen onze vrijwilligers en de diensten van het War Heritage Institute, met de logistieke steun van Sabena Aerospace en de 15 Wing.
Wij willen u hiervoor nogmaals bedanken.
Om redenen van volksgezondheid moest de officiële receptie, die afgelopen maart was gepland om de heropening van de C-119 in te leiden, worden geannuleerd. Helaas, met de sluiting van de musea is het weer onmogelijk deze nieuwe ruimte te bezoeken, zelfs in kleine groepen….
In bijlage vindt u enkele exclusieve beelden die het mogelijk maken om het werk te bekijken.
Wij wensen u en uw geliefden een goede gezondheid toe.

Vous avez contribué par vos dons, votre aide, votre action, à remettre en état le C-119 du Hall de l'Aviation afin de permettre de l'ouvrir à nouveau au public. Ce travail a été mené grâce à une étroite collaboration entre nos bénévoles et les services du War Heritage Institute, avec le soutien logistique de Sabena Aerospace et du 15 Wing.
Nous tenons encore à vous en remercier.
Pour les raisons de santé publique que vous connaissez, la réception officielle prévue en mars dernier pour inaugurer la réouverture du « C-119 » a dû être annulée, et malheureusement, vu la fermeture des musées, il est à nouveau impossible de visiter ce nouvel espace, même en petit comité…
Vous trouverez en annexe quelques images exclusives qui vous permettront de voir le travail réalisé.

Brussels Air Museum : The nose of the Airspeed AS.10 Oxford O-16 under repair.
Eight years ago, a truck maneuvering in air hall of the Royal Army Museum
damaged the nose of the preserved aircraft.
Although replacement parts were quickly obtained from the RAF Museum,
volunteers of the museum have now the possibility to repair the rare trainer on
the continent.
The Belgian Air Force acquired the first Oxford before World War two then
to train the future crews of twin engine aircraft then on order.
The Oxford was extensively used by the Air Forces of Commonwealth to train
bombers crews and for liaison duties.
After the war, the Belgian Air Force acquired 42 Oxford serving mostly with
the 15 Wing (Transport) but also to help the transition from single engine aircraft
to twin engine aircraft as the Meteor and as ack aircraft for fighter
squadrons. From 1955, the Belgian Oxfords were phased out but O-16 was preserved
thanks to the Belgian Air Force. The civil version of the Oxford, the Airspeed
Consul was also used in Congo by the Force Publique.
The aircraft is also mostly made of wood. Only 6 Oxford are known to be
preserved in the world and although less glamourous than a Spitfire, this
aircraft is a good example of the successful British trainers. Another rare gem
in the Brussels collection.
The volunteers also plan to correct the color of the aircraft adding the
missing yellow training bands.
