Europees luchttransport komt van de grond

Het Europees Luchttransport Commando (EATC) is volledig operationeel. Dat bekrachtigde generaal-majoor vlieger Claude Van de Voorde officieel op 28 november 2013. Op drie jaar tijd ontwikkelde de staf in Eindhoven zich tot een volwassen instituut met voldoende personeel, materieel en een goed netwerk.

Envol du transport aérien européen

L'European Air Transport Command (EATC) est totalement opérationnel. Le général-major aviateur Claude Van de Voorde l'annonçait officiellement le 28 novembre 2013. Un effectif, du matériel ainsi qu'un bon réseau auront permis au personnel d'Eindhoven de conforter la maturité de l'institution en trois ans. This evening, the French president announced the intervention will start in the coming hours.
The high level of effectiveness of the Belgian Air Force operationnal women and men is again recognized on the international level.

     

On Thursday, the United Nations may authorize a French-African intervention.
Belgium will probably support France militarily.
 

·         "Let's just say we are in a prudent planning phase," Belgian Defense minister Pieter De Crem (CD&V) told us Wednesday. France has approached Belgium to ask for its support in a military intervention that Paris is planning in the Central African Republic (CAR). The Belgian army is studying – and planning – the nature of its potential contribution.

·         Didier Reynders (MR), minister of Foreign Affairs, has said that his department is viewing this appeal "in a positive way," and the same attitude prevails in the Defense department, for at least two of the three French requests. According to our information, Paris wants aid from allied countries for three types of air support: strategic flights from Europe to CAR, tactical flights within CAR, and heavy helicopter support for serious medical evacuations. Belgium cannot respond to the third request because it does not have heavy lift helicopters, and therefore no medically equipped heavy helicopters. "Medevac" missions performed in Mali by Belgian Agusta A-109 helicopters are only for light evacuations.

Plans for "Nationwide" Warbird Flyover

Aviation heritage organizations are organizing to create a "nationwide
flyover of WWII aircraft" Aug. 15-16, 2015, commemorating the 70th
anniversary of the end of World War II, but the event may not be what you
think. The Chennault Foundation describes the nationwide flyover as taking
place in communities throughout America. Groups involved in the event
include the History Channel, the Air Force Association, EAA Warbirds of
America, the Commemorative Air Force, and a host of other groups.

It's not precisely clear if "nationwide" will translate to many local events
or one grand one, but an official announcement on Dec. 20 will provide more
details. The press conference will be hosted by the Chennault Aviation &
Military Museum, which holds its own direct ties to aviation's rich history.

The executive director of Chennault Aviation & Military Museum is Nell
Calloway, the granddaughter of Gen. Claire Chennault, whose Flying Tigers
group entered World War II in the skies over China on Dec. 20, 1941. The
group is credited as a first counterattack against Japan following Pearl
Harbor.

Said Calloway, "My grandfather and the Flying Tigers helped lay the
foundations for what became the U.S. Air Force and are a fitting symbol for
a movement to pay tribute to the achievements of American Airpower during
WWII."

One goal of the planned flyover is to raise and maintain public awareness of
historic aircraft with the hope of maintaining them in flyable condition.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner van Jetairfly geland in Brussel

Op Brussels Airport is woensdagmiddag de nieuwe Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner van Jetairfly geland. Het vliegtuig arriveerde op de luchthaven na een rechtstreekse ferryvlucht vanuit Paine Field in Everett, even ten noorden van Seattle. Jetairfly krijgt de beschikking over één Dreamliner, die zal worden ingezet op vluchten naar het Caribisch Gebied.
De Boeing 787 van Jetairfly draagt de naam 'Diamond' en is voorzien van de registratie OO-JDL. Het toestel vervangt één van beide Boeing 767-300ER's van Jetairfly. Als eerste gaat Jetairfly de nieuwe aanwinst inzetten op korte vluchten. Na kerstmis volgen de eerste transatlantische routes.

Jetairfly is de Belgische luchtvaartmaatschappij van reisconcern TUI Travel. Die onderneming heeft in totaal vijftien Dreamliners besteld, waarvan er inclusief de 787 van Jetairfly er nu vijf afgeleverd zijn. De overige vier vliegen al bij het Britse Thomson Airways.
Jetairfly is de eeerste luchtvaartmaatschappij in de Benelux die met de 787 gaat vliegen. ArkeFly, de Nederlandse airline van TUI Travel, ontvangt in mei 2014 haar eerste van drie Boeing 787’s. KLM neemt naar verwachting eind 2015 haar eerste Dreamliner in ontvangst.  (Source: Luchtvaartnieuws)
