Sandbar Mitchell : Acquisition of a long forgotten B-25J

B-25J Sandbar Mitchell Restoration's photo.

Impossible seems not to be in the vocabulary nor the brain of B-25 Mitchell adepts

B-25J Sandbar Mitchell Restoration
The Warbirds Of Glory Museum is excited to announce the acquisition of a long forgotten B-25J. Abandoned in Nome, Alaska during WWII, B-25J 44-28898 was one of many B-25s delivered to USSR under Roosevelt's Lend/Lease program. The USA ferried the aircraft as far as Fairbanks where the official hand-off would occur. The Russians then prepared it for the long journey from Fairbanks to the USSR, with a stop in Nome and then across the Bering Straits into Siberia.
However a lan...

On this day, a 100 yrs ago, a fifth Belgian Sqdn (Vme Escadrille M) was formed, equipped with three Blériot monoplanes and one Morane, flown by civilian pilots who had been presenting their aircraft for military purposes (Jan Olieslagers, Jules Tyck, Paul Hanciau, Comte Joseph d'Hespel and Sergeant Henri Crombez. Sergent Crombez was immediately promoted to Adjudant and given temporally command of the Escadrille, which was not taken with much thanks by Comte d'Hespel, who already was an Adjudant.
The unit was also based at Wilryck, and Crombez was soon replaced by Lieutenant Louis Stellingwerff. Comte d'Hespel was then pleased to be posted to Brussels forming a convertion-school with the remaining five French Farmans. (on the pic, Jules Tyck, Julien Stellingwerff & Jean Olieslagers L to R)

Zeppelin information and scale model stuff (Belgium minded)

Hello,

One of the most fascinating flying machine of the 1st World War was the Zeppelin.
Liège and Antwerp were amongst the first victims of a new way to make war : Strategic air bombings; and the Zeppelins were the weapons used.

In Belgium we have the chance to have the remains of the LZ62 (L-30).
Although these relics are on display, there are very few informations for the visitors to understand the importance of the displays.

Fortunatly a lot of information can be found on internet

Wikipedia give us the list of the Zeppelin including LZ62 : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Zeppelins
http://lzdream.net/dirigeables/zeppelin/ficheszep/0/zeppelin.php?lz=62&p=0 give us the details of the operations of the LZ62 and include à picture of Count Zeppelin flying with LZ62
The same site describes in detail the R type of Zeppelin (LZ62 was a R type zeppelin) : http://lzdream.net/dirigeables/zeppelin/type/r.php
LZ62 was based in Tonder (now in Denmark) and the Museum located there give more details of the operational life of LZ62 : http://www.zeppelin-museum.dk/main.php?lang=en&page=airships&id=l-30

But practically what was the appearence of LZ62 ?

For the game combatace a digital rendition of LZ62 was created, some screenshots are availlable at http://combatace.com/topic/22376-2-wips-voisin-and-l30-large-image-alert/

Scale modelling the LZ62 is possible. Arizona models sales drawing of the Zeppelin Type R they created for the motion pictures Flying boys : http://www.arizonamodels.com/product_info.php/cPath/47/products_id/193

If you do not want to have a large model of such a big flying machine, a company "printing" 3D models also produces a small scale mode of the LZ62 see http://www.shapeways.com/model/896723/airship-zeppelin-l30-lz62-1-2400.html

About the Liège and Antwerp attacks, some propaganda's drawings are on display at http://www.ww1-propaganda-cards.com/zeppelin_attacks%281%29-francais.html

The towns were bombed by Zeppelins Type M. Illustrations are availlable here : http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=32025.0

Some of the airships used to attack Liège and Antwerp came from Koln, see more at http://www.koelner-luftfahrt.de/luftschifferbtl3.htm
