With 650 miles yet to go, the winds had not turned in their favor.  The two Portuguese aviators, Sacadura Cabral and Gago Coutinho, computed that they had just 8.5 hours of fuel remaining, and they were still burning 20 gallons per hour.  To make it to the rocks called the Penedo de São Pedro, they would have to fly at an average ground speed of 80 mph, yet they were only at 72 mph.  Disaster loomed.  Yet to succeed meant more than their lives to them — it meant that their goal of proving that flying could be done for long distances over water without reference to land, would have failed.  And thus, the two Portuguese aviators continued on, unaware of the disaster that would soon result from their decision. La DH Less airshows in Belgium in 2013 : En 2013, la Défense s'économise

L'armée diminue notamment la fréquence de ses shows aériens
BRUXELLES L'agenda de la Défense se passe, pour 2013, d'un meeting aérien classique.

Elle a en effet indiqué que ce type d'événement serait désormais organisé tous les deux ans. Prochains rendez-vous sur la base de Kleine-Brogel (antre du 10 Wing Tactique), dans le Limbourg, en 2014. Puis à Florennes (foyer du 2 Wing Tactique), en 2016.

L'armée belge ne se ferme tout de même pas complètement au public. Puisque d'autres événements restent bien prévus. Les écoles chargées de former officiers (Bruxelles) et sous-officiers (Saffraanberg) ouvriront leurs portes en avril.
