Battle of Britain 75 – Pt.3 – Prologue: The Forgotten 'Few' – Gladiators over Norway

by Elliott Marsh
Predating both the Battle of France and the Battle of Britain, the Royal Air Force's short but savage defence of Norway in April 1940 is a largely overlooked conflict. No. 263 Squadron's antiquated Gloster Gladiators were thrust into a brief, intense conflict with the German Luftwaffe, facing relentless bombing attacks and treacherous operating conditions. Elliott Marsh reflects on the squadron's action in Norway from 24 to 27 April 1940.
