Warbirds Over Paso Air Show

Hot Stuff at Warbirds Over Paso
On a day when temperatures ran close to 100 degrees, thousands of people came out for the first Warbirds Over Paso air show presented by Estrella Warbirds Museum and Planes of Fame Museum. Overall it was a great success! Not only was there standing room only lines at the Firestone Brewery tent lines, but the heat of the afternoon sun found visitors ducking for cover with the sounds of the WWII era rotary engines flying overhead.

The crowds were treated to a sight that few have seen, the last flying N9M Flying Wing. It was amazing to see how far we have progressed in aviation. Another exciting performance which charged the crowds was an acrobatic performance of a Curtis P40 Warhawk. One could just imagine our fathers or grandfathers flying the same performance in the heat of a wartime aerial dog fight.

Watch YouTube video of Warbirds Over Paso by Jon Corippo

This writer took nearly 1500 pictures of the event, many of which can be seen on our Warbirds Over Paso web pages. They have all been updated with current pictures and also there is an area to leave comments or links to pictures. Just prior to the show, early arrivals were treated to a remote controlled air show from gasoline to electric to 200MPH turbine powered jets presented by North County Cloud Clippers. Pictures can be found here. It would be safe to say that "Fun was had by all!" Look for next year's Warbirds Over Paso tentatively set for early October, 2013.

Los Angeles County Fair
A bit of Italian Aviation History

During all the excitement leading up to Warbirds Over Paso, one restoration project was fast-tracked to completion in order to devote more time to the air show preparations.

Resting peacefully now under the late summer sky, is one of only 700 Aeromacchi MB326 jets. It is one of only a handful on American soil. This beautifully restored static display now resides in Paso Robles. Powered by a Rolls Royce Viper 20 engine with 1547 kilo of power thrust, this bird served the Italian Air Forces from 1957 until it's retirement. For more information, visit the MB326 page here. Ron Boyte and his team of restoration experts did a wonderful job on this project.

1929 Marmon
1929 Marmon Restoration Nearly Complete

Here's a neat and unique vehicle being readied for the Woodland Automotive Display. It's a 1929 Marmon 3 window coupe, complete with wooden spokes, a rumble seat and... for all you golf fans out there, the Marmon had a rather unique storage compartment designed just for golf clubs!
This is just one of many more that are destined for display here in Paso Robles. Construction is moving along with the third addition to Woodland Automotive Display Building.

Estrella Warbirds Museum is extremely fortunate that Richard Woodland has the same goal...to preserve history for our future generations! Watch for more exciting news!

Never heard of a Marmon before? Did you know that Marmon was first to mass produce 8 cylinder engines for automobiles? Time for a refresher course in history, or read all about it and see more pictures, click here>.

Fwd: The Ghosts of Saskatchewan

If the USA were the arsenal of the democracy, Canada was the Flying classroom of the Allied air forces. Many young airmen learn to fly there including Belgians. Again a fantastic article from Vintage wings of Canada.

Ladies and Gentlemen Aviators

Starting in 1940, the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan blew through the Canadian Prairies like a summer hail storm. Massive training infrastructure projects meant huge changes in the economy, population, spirit and society of small farming communities just coming out of the Great Depression. Then, in 1945, they were gone. As some of these critical-to-the-war bases fade away for all time, we take stock of the fates of the BCATP airfields of Saskatchewan. Uploaded by on Jun 22, 2009
Lockheed T-33 Operating Instructions - Part 1. The Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star is an American-built jet trainer aircraft. It was produced by Lockheed and made its first flight in 1948, piloted by Tony LeVier. The T-33 was developed from the Lockheed P-80/F-80 starting as TP-80C/TF-80C in development, then designated T-33A. It was used by the U.S. Navy initially as TO-2 then TV-2, and after 1962, T-33B. Despite its vintage, the venerable T-33 still remains in service worldwide.

Brussels Airport ontvangt minder passagiers

(MH)  Source: Express.be
