On 5 March 1936 the Spitfire took to the sky for the first time at Eastleigh Airport.  80 years on, Huw Hopkins provides a pictorial look at Europe's airworthy Spitfire population. The Spitfire - the British icon recognised by small children and the elderly alike, and undoubtedly one of the most beautiful aeroplanes of all time. […]

Dirk,

Groetjes,

Jean Dillen

Video: "CONSTRUCTION OF BUCKER BU-181 AIRCRAFT RANGSDORF, GERMANY 73572"

This silent German educational film shows the construction of a Bücker Bü 181 Bestmann aircraft, one of the Luftwaffe's standard training airplanes throughout WWII.

The prototype Bü 181 (D-ERBV) made its maiden flight in February 1939 with Chief Pilot Arthur Benitz at the controls. After thorough works and official flight testing by the Reichsluftfahrtministerium (RLM) the Bü 181 was nominated to be the standard primary trainer for the Luftwaffe. Series production of the Bü 181 commenced in 1940. The production types were designated B to C with only slight variations between each, and could be powered by the Hirth HM 500 A or B.

The Bü 181 aircraft was a single-engine low-wing monoplane with fixed undercarriage, split flap, twin controls and two adjustable seats arranged side-by-side. The cabin section of the fuselage was of a tubular steel frame construction whereas the rear of the fuselage had a wooden shell. The wing assembly and tail unit were also of wooden shell construct...

The Old Flying Machine Company – Pt.1 – The Founding Father & Son

by Elliott Marsh
Ray and Mark Hanna established the Old Flying Machine Company (OFMC) at IWM Duxford in the mid-1980s. For more than 30 years, it has been at the pinnacle of vintage aircraft operation, setting the bar for dynamic airshow and movie flying. In the first part of our extensive series charting the OFMC's history, Sarah Hanna discusses the organisation's formative years.

Brussels Airport Company : Passenger growth of 11% in February at Brussels Airport

Passenger growth of 11% in February at Brussels Airport

In February, Brussels Airport welcomed more than 1.5 million passengers. That is a considerable rise of 11.2% compared to the same month last year. This rise is partly due to the leap day. The cargo volume at Brussels Airport dropped by 1.8% compared to February last year. Full-freighter traffic, however, has dropped even sharper, with the departure of Ethiopian Cargo.
