This vital task was carried out by the men and women of the ATA, a civilian air force operating from their own pools and stations all over Britain. The number of rockets that hit the target: the port, was merely negligible, as well as the damage they caused to it. A complete information ban by the allied military forces (under American and British command) about the bombings, could implicate that those were not unhappy with the inaccuracy of the missiles.
