Nieuwsbrief juli 2021 Overlijden oud-gevangene Fort van Breendonk: Louis Boeckmans Op 18 juli 2021 is Louis Boeckmans ( 98 ) overleden. Louis was verzetsstrijder tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog. In 1944 werd hij verraden en kwam hij via het Fort van Breendonk in Buchenwald terecht. De verschrikkingen van de oorlog zijn hem altijd steeds bijgebleven. Louis gaf hierover ook lezingen om ervoor te zorgen dat ze ook in het collectieve geheugen zouden blijven bestaan. Recent, in juni 2021, werd zijn getuigenis voor de laatste keer opgenomen. Bedankt Louis, om te strijden voor onze vrijheid, en voor jouw missie om ervoor te zorgen dat de geschiedenis zich niet herhaalt! Instaprondleiding Jubelpark: Legermuseum ♥ Museum A&H Op één namiddag alle hoeken van de wereld zien, dat kan tijdens de instaprondleidingen die het Legermuseum samen met Museum Kunst en Geschiedenis organiseert. Laat je in het Museum Kust en Geschiedenis op sleeptouw nemen door een gids en ga van Canada via Zuid-Amerika over Indonesië en Vietnam naar China, Nepal en India. Via een verborgen doorgang maak je de oversteek naar het Legermuseum, over de Triomfboog heen met adembenemend uitzicht over Brussel. Hier vertrek je vanuit de vliegtuighal, en neemt de gids je mee in de voetsporen van soldaten ingezet aan verre fronten. Nieuwe tijdelijke tentoonstelling in Fort van Breendonk In het Fort van Breendonk loopt een nieuwe tijdelijke tentoonstelling. In deze expo ontdekt u de geschiedenis van de eerste concentratiekampen in Duitsland tot het Verdrag voor de Rechten van de Mens. Toegang tot deze tentoonstelling is inbegrepen in de inkomprijs. Nationale Feestdag – Korea Ter ere van de 70ste verjaardag van de inzet van het Belgische Vrijwilligerskorps voor Korea nam een tienkoppige Koreaanse delegatie deel aan het defilé op de Nationale Feestdag. Tijdens hun bezoek aan België bezocht deze delegatie ook de slagvelden rond Bastogne. Bezoek aan de C-130 Het iconische militaire vliegtuig C-130 staat sinds 1 juli op de museumsite van het First Historical Wing Centre in Bevekom. Plan gerust een bezoekje in om dit majestueuze vliegtuig te komen bewonderen. Inkomprijzen First Wing Historical Centre: zonder bezoek C-130: 5€ met bezoek C-130: 7€ Openingstijden: -Open elke 2de en 4de zondag van de maand van 14:00 tot 18:00 voor individuele bezoekers -Elke 1ste zondag van de maand voor groepen. Enkel op reservatie en op beschikbaarheid van de gidsen. -Rondleidingen worden ook gegeven op dinsdagnamiddag tijdens de vrijwilligersdag. Meer info

Modest increase in passenger numbers for June compared to May, still 73% down on 2019 

Growth in air freight volumes continues with a 40% increase compared to 2020 

 

In June, Brussels Airport welcomed 646,589 passengers, i.e. a 73% decline compared to June 2019. With an increased number of flights, and the prospect of summer holidays, June was the best month since the start of the pandemic in March 2020. Cargo traffic continues its strong growth in June, with volumes up 40% compared to June 2020.

Bye Bye Alouette
On July 8th, 2021, the last two Alouette III of the Air Component performed their last flights.
The editorial staff is sure that you have seen countless pictures and often the same ones of
this historic and emotionally charged day for the crews through social media.
Our goal is not comparable and after reflection, it seemed more appropriate to wait and
return to the subject with a more historical approach in order to better highlight the men and
machines that lived together for half a century.

Brussels Airport: July Air Traffic
The month of July, ahhhh summer vacation… not to be missed!
This summer movement has of course brought its share of charter flights with unusual
planes in the region and caused the traffic to increase tenfold.

2 Wing Tac… By day and by night
In our small country an event was awaited with fervour and impatience, I named the
Belgian Air Force Days 2021. Oh sure, everyone knew that it would not be the international
show like the ones of yesteryear, but it was the occasion for many to set foot on an airbase
again and watch those flying machines in action. Alas, three times alas, the pandemic was
already going and finally a simple day dedicated for the photographers (max 400) was
organized by the authorities and the personnel of Florennes airbase with access from
13.00 hours to 23.00 hours to finish with a night shoot.
