Airbus Military has announced that the A400M has completed its first set of unpaved runway tests at Cottbus-Drewitz airfield in Germany. The company made the announcement in a 28 May, 2012 statement.

Gilbert was born in Central Falls, Rhode Island on 07/07/1919. His father Albert Malrait was from Ronse (Belgium) and his mother Anna Ellen Bradley was from Blackburn, England. Gilbert's father, Albert, emigrated to the U.S. on April 20, 1909 through Liverpool on the ship SS Ivernia.

On October 24,1940 he joined the army in Providence RI and was assigned to the medical service. His military serial number was 11011541.

De l’arrivée dans l’atelier à l’objet exposé : les protocoles de restauration

In March 2012, a very interesting seminar about aircraft restoration was held in the Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace in Paris.

The organizers had the good idea to publish the recordings of the presentation on the net.

This is in French but quite interesting.

Georges Nelis monument ceremony

In February 2011, the monument on the grave of Georges Nélis, pionner of Belgian aviation and first pilot of the Belgian air Force were stolen.

Thanks to common action of the Belgian Defense, the Vieilles Tiges of Belgian and Wings of Memory, the monument is now restored. See the article of Dirk on wings of Memory.be

Restauratie Monument Lt Georges Nelis

Georges Nélis (Halle, 22 mei 1886 - Elsene, 2 maart 1929) was een Belgische luchtvaartpionier. Hij was de eerste Belgische militair met een militair vliegbrevet.
Tevens was hij oprichter en directeur van zowel Sabena, SNETA en SABCA en wordt daarom gezien als de "vader van de Belgische luchtvaart".

Highlights will include Sally B, Europe's last airworthy Fortress and the ever popular Hardwick Warbirds with their P-51 Mustangs Jeanie and Marinelle. They will be joined by a host of exciting aircraft and display teams. There will be music, military vehicles, historic formula one racing cars, vintage and classic vehicles, trade stands, food and refreshment.

First impressions of La Ferté 2012

Arrival Day: Friday - May 25th 2012
Always the same pleasant atmosphere of dedication to aviation and the friendly welcome from the volunteers of Amicale Jean-Baptiste Salis association.
This year, Belgium is massively represented with the Belgian Air Force's "Red Devils", a T-28 and 2 Tipsy's. The Red Devils performed an astonishing training session notwithstanding the high winds. For sure they stole the show on this first day.
The Armée de l'Air dispatched a Rafale fighter who demonstrated the superb qualities of this magnificent aircraft. From their side, the French Navy delegated two Super Etendard ship born fighter-bombers mastered by the pilots of "La Royale" with the same expertise as previous years.
But, of course we visit La Ferté to see old-timers and the program is rich and varied with the Morane MS-406, the Curtiss H-75, a Supermarine Spitfire, 5 Stieglitz, a Bf 108, a Luciole and many more treasures still sleeping in the hangars of La Ferté, to be showed at the occasion of the airshow.

Passenger dies in mid-air during Mexico-Belgium flight

A Jetairfly passenger plane flying from Mexico to Belgium made an emergency landing in Ireland on Wednesday morning after one of its passengers became unwell in mid-air, the airline said. The passenger was pronounced dead upon landing.

Jetairfly flight 208 was flying from Cancún International Airport on the Caribbean coast of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula when a male passenger suffered a medical emergency. “The crews and passenger-nurses who were called upon administered medical care,” said Hans Vanhaelemeesch, a spokesman for the Belgian airline.

Less than 30 minutes after the pilot declared a medical emergency, the Boeing 767-300 made an emergency landing at Shannon Airport in Ireland. “At the airport a doctor determined the death of the passenger,” Vanhaelemeesch said.

“The deceased passenger was traveling with his spouse. The cause of death is heart failure.”

The remaining 252 passengers waited several hours before they were able to resume their flight to the Belgian capital of Brussels. “The unfortunate incident resulted in a 6-hour delay at Brussels,” the spokesman added. “The management and staff of Jetairfly and Jetair express their condolences to the family of the deceased.”

Dans le petit monde de l'aviation militaire, le commandant aviateur Fabian « Goos » Goossens n'est pas seulement connu pour avoir été un pilote F16, dix-neuf années durant. Il est également apprécié par ses pairs pour la qualité de son coup de crayon. C'est en effet à la Première Escadrille qu'il a eu l'opportunité de développer son talent artistique. Goos a ainsi réalisé de splendides décorations de « tails » d'avion lors d'évènements majeurs. Seuls 6000 exemplaires ont été édités, alors ne trainez pas…

Le Commandant Aviateur Fabian « GOOS » Goossens est entré à la Force Aérienne belge comme élève-pilote en 1986. Après un écolage sur SIAI Marchetti SF-260 à Gossoncourt et sur Alpha-Jet à Saint-Trond, il commence son entraînement sur F-16 en 1989, date à laquelle il rejoint la base de Florennes. En 2008, après 19 ans et 2700 heures passées aux commandes du chasseur mythique, il retourne à ses premiers amours aéronautiques : le Marchetti.
