Le 11 septembre dernier, j'ai effectué un vol d'une heure trente à bord de cet appareil (avec un ancien collègue de travail). [voir photo avant le vol, en pièce jointe]

Il s'agit d'un Piper Cub qui avait servi à la Force terrestre, auparavant.

Speciale woorden van dank van de ambassaduer van UK en Canada voor Jean Zaman (organisator) en Wings Of Memory. Aan de ambassadeur van UK werd het polshorloge overhandigd van piloot Sgt Owen, dat kort na de crash door een inwoner werd gevonden, met de vraag dit te bezorgen aan de familie of te schenken aan het Britse Imperial War Museum.   Short impression of the memorial Hampden 44 sqd in Waasmunster. Great success and great public audience. Special words of thanks of the Ambassador of UK and Canada for Jean zaman (organizer) and wings or memory. The Ambassador of UK was handed with the clock of the pilot sgt Owen, that shortly after the crash was found by a resident was found, with the question to deliver this relic to the family or to take up the British Imperial War Museum.   Erwin De Backer heeft een album met u gedeeld. 			Vrienden van de luchtvaart, nogal wat heren kregen de afgelopen weken een nieuwe topfunctie binnen de Belgische luchtvaartscene. Op woensdag 7 september 2011 gaf kolonel vlieger Robert Brecx het bevel van de 1 Wing en de vliegbasis Beauvechain over aan kolonel vlieger stafbrevethouder Georges Dejaeger. Hij werd de 34ste basiscommandant van de 1 Wing in Beauvechain. Op woensdag 28 september gaf kolonel vlieger stafbrevethouder Bruno Havermans, het bevel van de basis Koksijde over aan luitenant-kolonel vlieger Peter Van Den Broucke die de 24ste basiscommandant van Koksijde wordt.  Kolonel vlieger Havermans zal bij Comopsair verder instaan voor de integratie van de NH 90. Op donderdag 6 oktober vonden er op en rond de markt van Gavere festiviteiten plaats die kaderen in de viering van het zestigjarige bestaan van het militaire luchtverkeersleidingcentrum en van het tienjarig peterschap van de gemeente Gavere over de luchtmachtbasis. Kolonel van het vliegwezen Dirk Verhaeghe droeg toen het commando van de eenheid over aan luitenant-kolonel van het vliegwezen Tim Van Langenhove. Ook in de burgerluchtvaart verschuiven hoge postjes. Luc Van den Bossche verlaat The Brussels Airport Company. Na een lange politieke carrière ging Luc Van den Bossche in 2003 bij The Brussels Airport Company (toen nog BIAC) aan de slag als Chief Executive Officer. In 2004 werd hij benoemd tot voorzitter en CEO. In 2005 trok hij zich terug als CEO, maar bleef aan als voorzitter van de raad van bestuur. The Brussels Airport Company zoekt naarstig naar een opvolger. Die krijgt ondermeer het fel aangevochten dossier over het afhandelingscontract van Brussels Airport op zijn bord. Swissport, een van de kandidaten voor het contract, benoemde op 14 september een nieuw managementteam dat zijn operaties op Brussels Airport moet leiden. Marcel Buelens wordt er COO. Van 2006 tot 2009 was hij nog gedelegeerd bestuurder van Brussels South Charleroi Airport. Naast al die benoemingen van belangrijke heren willen we toch nog de vleugeluitreiking aan 50 luchtcadetten vermelden. Ze kregen op 5 oktober hun vleugels van luitenant-generaal vlieger (b.d.) Guido Vanhecke, voorzitter van de Koninklijke Vereniging 'De Luchtcadetten van België', en van generaal-majoor vlieger Van De Voorde. Met de steun van de Luchtcomponent kunnen elk jaar 50 jongens en meisjes een zweefvliegopleiding volgen. Het doel is deze jonge mensen warm te maken voor het vliegwezen in het algemeen en meer in het bijzonder voor een loopbaan als militaire piloot. Dit soort van initiatieven blijft heel belangrijk, naast de diverse andere vormen van scholing om zowel jongeren als vijftigplussers kansen te geven in de luchtvaart. Want luchtvaart leeft niet alleen van topfuncties. Piloten, cargobedienden, loadmasters, schoonmaakpersoneel, verkeersleiders, …  worden hier nog voldoende kansen geboden? Hangar Flying wil zijn lezers goede teksten brengen, niet enkel foto's. Tekst en onderzoek staan bij ons centraal. Onze redactieleden engageren zich ook buiten Hangar Flying voor de luchtvaart. De afgelopen maanden werkten we o.a. mee aan het boek 'Sabena, de toekomst kwam uit de lucht'. Zowel het boek als de tentoonstelling zijn een aanrader. Guido en Jean-Pierre brengen daarover verslag uit. We stellen u ook graag de nieuwste publicatie van Guido voor: 'Onderweg in 100 vliegtuigen'. Hij beschrijft daarin op zijn heel eigen manier zijn vliegervaring in 100 vliegtuigtypes. In het artikel staat alle nodige informatie om dit knap werk te bestellen.  Naar aanleiding van het bezoek van de Sikorsky S-38 aan de Warbird & Oldtimer Fly In in Zoersel, schreef Kevin een artikel over deze unieke vliegboot. Tussen Frans zijn vakantielectuur zat het boek 'Luchtschip ontploft boven Gent', je leest hierover een recensie. Guy was erbij toen in de lokalen van LSG Skychefs de 'airport academy'  werd opgericht. Het Nieuwsblad brengt fotoboeken uit met luchtfoto's van Wim Robberechts. Guido spaart ijverig voor die boeken en brengt verslag uit. Op woensdag 12 oktober organiseerde het Competentiecentrum van de Luchtcomponent de jaarlijkse vleugeluitreiking op de basis in Beauvechain. Jean-Pierre woonde voor Hangar Flying de plechtigheid bij en schreef een impressie. Hangar Flying.

Clark Gable was a superstar in Hollywood. In 1942, following the death of his wife Carole Lombard in an air crash, he became afraid of flying. However, Gable joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and followed successfully officer and air gunner training. He was posted in the UK where he flow combat missions on B-17. One of these mission was over Antwerp. 

Clark Gable 8th USAAF 1943 During much of 1943, Major Clark Gable was stationed at Polebrook to produce a recruiting film for aircraft gunners. While there, he flew five combat missions as an observer. Much of the film was shot by MGM cinematographer Andrew McIntyre, who not only accompanied Gable, but who also enlisted with him in the USAAF. Gable's first combat mission occurred on 4 May 43 flying with Capt W.R. Calhoun from the 303rd Bomb Group at Molesworth in the lead aircraft nicknamed 'Eight Ball II' #41-24635 and targeting Antwerp, Belgium. His second mission was on 15 Jun 43 flying with Lt. Theodore. Argiropulos from the 351st Bomb Group at Polebrook in the aircraft 'Argonaut III' #42-29851 and targeting Villacoublay, France. His third combat mission occurred on July 24, 1943 flying with Lt.Col . Robert W. Burns from the 351st Bomb Group at Polebrook in 'Argonaut III' #2-29851 and bombing Heroya, Norway. His fourth combat mission occurred 12 Aug 43 flying with Capt... plus

Brussels Airlines records 23, 6 procent passenger growth in September 2011

  A total of 583,020 passengers chose Brussels Airlines in the month of September. This is an increase of 23, 6 percent compared to September 2010. The seat load factor amounted to 72, 7 percent.
Also in the month of September, the first month after the holiday break of the Brussels based EU institutions and companies, Brussels Airlines recorded once more a strong passenger growth. The number of passengers that selected one of the EU destinations of Brussels Airlines grew with 24, 8 pct. The Africa network attracted almost 14 pct more passengers.
The overall passenger increase (+ 23, 6 pct) exceeded the capacity growth resulting in an improvement of the seat occupancy factor. The seat occupancy factor grew in September with 7, 1 pct. points.
Not included in these statistics are the passenger figures of the charter flights operated by Brussels Airlines on behalf of tour operators.

A rare Spitfire Mark I takes to the skies once more

It is regarded by purists as the true Supermarine Spitfire and now a rare Mark I has been rebuilt and is once again flying over England.

The order came through on May 23, 1940 for Flight Officer Peter Cazenove to head for RAF Hornchurch, Essex in his aircraft for a briefing before heading for France to intercept German bombers. His flight into enemy territory, however, didn't last long. He was shot down 55 minutes after taking off from Hornchurch, and crash-landed on a beach near Calais. Forty years later, his Supermarine Spitfire P9374 re-emerged from the muddy coastline, and now it has been painstakingly rebuilt by the Aircraft Restoration Company. In the year that the Supermarine Spitfire is marking its 75th anniversary, The Telegraph took a seat in the cockpit to experience flying in one of the Second World War's most celebrated aircraft.
