Press Conference Vizion Air

The new Belgian airline Vizion Air held its press conference at Antwerp
Airport.
Vizion Air is a product of The Aviation Factory. Vizion Air has a Fokker
50 available at all times and can use the aircraft of the Aviation Factory when needed. They will also offer special flights to sports and cultural events.

21st TSC spearheads helicopter offload at Antwerp

Elements of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command assisted the 838th Transportation Battalion, Kleber Kaserne, Kaiserslautern, Germany, with the offload of nearly 50 Army helicopters and associated components from a cargo ship at the port here, Jan. 17.

The AH-64 Apache helicopters and CH-47 Chinook helicopters began their journey in Beaumont, Texas, where they spent 12 days traveling across the Atlantic Ocean before being offloaded and stored at the port of Antwerp.

Various United States and partner nation agencies are involved in the movement with the final destination set for Coleman Barracks, Germany, where the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade will assemble and distribute the helicopters to its subordinate units.

According to Hans Roggeveen, a senior cargo specialist with the Benelux Detachment of 838th Trans., the cargo will be stored in Antwerp for up to three weeks before being loaded onto barges and transported down the Rhine River into Germany.

Spitfire Dig to Continue at Second Site

Undaunted by a failure to find any buried Spitfires at the first dig site in
Burma, project leader David Cundall said he is ready to start excavating a
second site. Cundall said he will be flying soon to Myitkyina, about 900
miles from the first dig site. A preliminary dig at Myitkyina found a buried
wooden crate filled with water and Cundall hopes further excavation there
will find airplanes. Cundall also said that excavation at the first site, at
Yangon Airport, was stymied when officials prevented crews from digging more
than five feet deep, to prevent damage to airport infrastructure such as
pipes and cables. Cundall had said he wanted to go to at least 20 feet deep.

If the second site proves unfruitful, Cundall has identified at least one
other site in Burma where he hopes to excavate. He also may return to the
first site and continue digging by hand, if officials will allow it, to
assure no damage is done. Cundall, a British farmer, has been hunting for
the lost Spitfires since 1996. He believes that the British military packed
more than 120 Spitfires in crates and buried them in the ground before
vacating Burma more than 60 years ago at the end of World War II.

North American Dates Set for Mosquito

The only flying De Havilland Mosquito will have a busy schedule in North
America this summer, according to its owner Jerry Yagen of the Fighter
Factory. As we reported earlier (http://tinyurl.com/b879vp8), the
reconstructed Mosquito, which flew for the first time in September, has made
several public appearances in New Zealand where AVspecs, the company that
did the restoration, is based.

Sometime this spring, the aircraft, which was originally built in Canada,
will be shipped to North America and Yagen said it will be at a lot of
airshows this coming season, including his own Warbirds Over the Beach
(http://tinyurl.com/al9wxml) in Virginia Beach May 17-19.

It will also make an appearance not far from the factory where it was built.
The Mosquito will headline the Hamilton Air Show June 15-16. Hamilton is
about 30 miles west of Toronto, where the original aircraft was built. In
addition to its solo performance, the Mosquito will join a formation flight
of warbirds that will include the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum's
Lancaster bomber along with a Spitfire and a Hurricane. There will also be a
gathering of Mosquito pilots.

Parmis la récente vague de déclassification de documents de la CIA se trouve le manuel de vol du U-2 datant de 1959.

S'il ne correspond bien entendu pas au manuel de vol de la version actuelle du U-2 en service, cette déclassification permettra aux passionnés de cette période de s'imaginer comment étaient pilotés les U-2 qui ont découvert les missiles soviétiques à Cuba …
