With the demise of the RAF Leuchars airshow, Cosford is now one of only two shows on the calendar hosted by the Royal Air Force. Shaun Schofield headed up to Shropshire to see what the junior service had in store for its first show of the year.

Your help is badly needed : Engines for the B-25 Mitchell, Please help

Dear Friend,
An airplane without an engine is a glider. You all know it. We have a fantastic opportunity to acquire the two engines for our (your) famous B-25. The budget is extremely reasonable. We had expected to pay 15.000 euro for the engines, we can acquire them for 5.000. But we need your support. And we need it quickly, the seller will not wait for centuries.

All donations are welcomed. If 100 generous donators like you give 50 euro, the engines will be ours.
Your name as a donator will be engraved on a plaque affixed to either of the engines.

Donations can be made to
BAPA asbl on account IBAN BE81 3631 1427 4124
or
BAMF asbl on account IBAN: BE96310184476205 BIC: BBRUBEBB (donations above 40 euro are tax-deductible)

Please mention on your payment slip “Gift B-25” and your e-mail address (allowing us to keep you posted on the B-25 restoration status
Please forward this mail to all persons you know who could be interested to join and be so partly owner of a warbird.

Donations from 1000 euro upwards will be offered a flight (from Grimbergen) on either a Piper Cub or a Chipmunk

B-25 restoration project information are available via link: http://www.bapa.be/a-b-25-back-to-belgium

[vintage-and-warbirds] The Dornier Do 17 One Year Later

Forwarded message -  From: Steve Link steven_link@

Dornier_Forward_Fuselage_June_2014
PRESS RELEASE- Tuesday 10th June 2014 will mark the first anniversary of the moment the world's last surviving Dornier Do 17 was successfully lifted from the bottom of the Dover Straits.   The breath taking moment the aircraft surfaced from the water was captured live on TV and sparked interest from around the globe.Just five days later on the 15th June, the Dornier was transported from Ramsgate, Kent, to the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford, Shropshire and placed inside purpose built hydration tunnels. Here, the Dornier has been systematically sprayed with a low concentration citric acid based solution to arrest the damaging effects of nearly seventy years on the seabed. This process has helped to soften up and remove marine accretions, allowing direct access to the airframe structure and the subsequent neutralisation of corrosion impurities.

Sure hope this old gal gets the attention she deserves….

D-Day 70 – Pt.22 – Operation OVERLORD: Allied Airpower over Normandy, 6 June 1944

by Elliott Marsh
6 June, 1944. After nearly five years of war, this was it. The fight for the free world. The Allies flew thousands upon thousands of sorties on D-Day; heavy and medium bombers pummelled coastal defences, fighter-bombers kept the roads and railways clear of traffic and a terrific umbrella of fighter cover swept the skies free of Luftwaffe fighters. Elliott Marsh looks at the vital role played by the British and American air forces during the opening salvo of Operation OVERLORD, and the effect that this 'day of days' had on the men tasked with supporting the greatest invasion the world had ever seen.

Thanks Phil for sharing

F1 sera officiellement retiré du service opérationnel le 13 juin 2014. L'armée de l'air a tenu à lui rendre hommage en immortalisant un vol en patrouille rassemblant plusieurs livrées historiques du Mirage F1.
