A First for Belgium: Commercial Contract for the Supply of a Satellite Signed SPACEBEL to Vietnam

It is on January 20th 2014 in Hanoi, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Vietnamese Hoang Trung Hai and the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Johan Vande Lanotte, that SPACEBEL signed the contract for the supply to Vietnam of an Earth observation system “Made in Belgium” named VNREDSat-1b (Vietnam Natural Resources, Environment & Disaster Monitoring satellite). The satellite will be launched in 2017.

The industrial consortium under the leadership of SPACEBEL comprises several Belgian space companies:AMOS, QinetiQ Space, Deltatec, the Space Centre of Liege, and VITO, which will gather their skills to develop and validate the flight segment as well as the ground segment. The project also includes a training programme, in partnership with the University of Liège, and intended for the Vietnamese engineers in charge of the satellite data reception and analysis.

Based on ESA’s PROBA satellite platform, VNREDSat-1b will be placed in a Sun-synchronous orbit for a 5 year observation mission. It will allow Vietnam to strengthen its autonomy in the monitoring of phenomena such as deforestation, river and maritime pollution, flooding, agricultural and fishery activities, the effects of climate change, etc. With this information, the Vietnamese authorities will be able to better adapt their environmental management policy to the specific needs of the country. The contract amounts to more than 60 million Euros.

SPACEBEL is proud to work with the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) thus confirming our positioning on the Earth observation mini-satellite market.

Filmed circa 1942 in beautiful Kodachrome color at the EDO plant in College Point, NY and at Laguardia Airport. EDO manufactured attachable floats that converted conventional aircraft into seaplanes. I determined the approximate date of filming from a viewer's comment that the particular type of star insignia seen on the C-47 was only used in 1942 (thanks, ocoee96). My grandfather worked at EDO as a traffic manager during World War Two, during which time he probably acquired this film. I discovered it just a few years ago while archiving his collection. Grandpa was an experienced cameraman, having made many technically excellent amateur films from 1929 onward, but I can't say for sure if he had any hand in this film's production since the credits are missing. This video replaces an earlier posting that was of inferior quality. I added the soundtrack using music from a symphony composed in 1942 by Roy Harris.

La DGAC vient de numériser la collection complète de la revue du Service Technique de la Navigation Aérienne (STNA) 67 numéros de 1967 à 2004. Cette revue technique est parue jusqu’à fusion du STNA et du CENA (centre d’étude de la navigation aérienne) en 2005 qui a donné lieu à la création de la Direction de la Technique et de l’Innovation.
Créé par décret en 1961, le service technique de la navigation aérienne s’est consacré à l’étude, l’achat, la réception, la vérification technique, la mise en place et éventuellement l’entretien des installations nécessaires à l’aviation civile. Il a été également chargé d’études relatives à la navigation et à la circulation aérienne, à l’exploitation technique des aérodromes et des aéronefs et des télécommunications aéronautiques.

Le Mirage F1 vit ses derniers mois au sein de l’escadron de reconnaissance 2/33 « Savoie », stationné sur la base /33aérienne 118 de Mont-de-Marsan. Cet escadron qui fut en 1939 et 1944 l’unité d’Antoine de Saint-Exupéry [1] est le dernier équipé de ce chasseur, utilisé pendant 40 années par l’Armée de l’Air.

The Bronce Demo Team "new" Rockwel OV-10 has arrived at Wevelgem

 

The Bronco Demo Team's "new" Rockwell OV-10 Bronco G-ONAA "99+18" arriving at its homebase Wevelgem on Sunday 2 March 2014.The aircraft was flown by Tony De Bruyn who fortunately made a remarkable recovery after being injured in an incident with "99+32"at Kemble Airport on July 10th, 2012.

The "new" Bronco will be presented at the third edition of the Bronco Fan Day at Wevelgem airport on Sunday March 16th, 2014

"Survol de France" c'est 24158 photos aériennes de 6598 lieux différents (liste) parmi 104 départements (liste) et prises par 673 photographes amateurs et professionnels (liste).

 Ce site est l'aboutissement de plusieurs années de travail et de partage de la part des photographes contribuant à l'étoffer. Je les en remercie ici très chaleureusement car sans eux il ne serait pas aussi complet. Tous ces pilotes partagent avec vous leurs photos et cela gratuitement. Je vous demande donc de bien vouloir respecter les conditions d'utilisation que vous pouvez consulter en lisant la page dédiée.

 De nouvelles photos sont ajoutées en général une à deux fois par semaine. Tout cela est bien évidemment fonction des vols des contributeurs et de la météo. Alors un peu de patience si votre ville ou village n'est pas encore sur le site ...

A landmark but unflown aircraft, dubbed the 'Bugatti Veyron of the skies', is being recreated by a Scottish engineer working with a team in Oklahoma.
The Bugatti 100P was described as one of the most advanced planes of its era and if it had flown, its designers believed it would have reached 500mph.
At the time the air speed record, set by a German Messerschmitt in 1939, was 469mph.

A British engineer is behind ambitious plans to recreate a landmark but tragic aircraft, the Bugatti 100P Pictured is the original Bugatti 100P which was mothballed in 1940 to conceal it from the Germans

But in 1940, and near completion, Bugatti - the Italian car designer - was forced to conceal the elegant aircraft in the hope it would not be discovered by the German military.
