De ronde vliegtuigloodsen op het vliegveld van Grimbergen worden gerestaureerd. Hangar Flying had een belangrijk aandeel in de bescherming van de loodsen als onroerend erfgoed, ook de Duitse kalibreerschijf op het vliegveld geniet trouwens deze erkenning. Zowel de loodsen – ontworpen door Alfred Hardy – als de schijf worden nu hersteld. Eén van de loodsen wordt op Open Monumentendag open gesteld voor het publiek en bezoekers krijgen uitleg over de restauratie. Georges Kleinberg was bommenrichter bij 207 Squadron en is vermist nadat zijn Lancaster werd neergeschoten in de nacht van 22 op 23 juni 1943. In Chappelle-à-Oie, deel van Blicquy waar hij geboren werd, staat een kleine gedenkplaat die eraan herinnert dat deze aas ooit in dit kleine Henegouwse dorpje woonde. Belgian Miliatary Forces in the Congo Volume 1: The Force Publique, 1885-1960 Though the dynamics of the Congo Crisis have received, and continue to receive, a good deal of literary and scholarly attention, missing from the canon of work on military forces in the Congo is a study of the Force Publique, a paramilitary police force established by King Léopold II to secure the Congo Free State and to protect a vast geographical swathe of Central Africa that had become his own personal possession following the Berlin Conference of 1884-1885. In many ways, the absence of any study on the origins of the Force Publique to its dissolution in 1960 means that our knowledge surrounding the history of the Belgian Congo and the modern-day Democratic Republic of the Congo is incomplete. Indeed, it is possible to trace the origins of rebellion in the Congo Crisis (1960-1967) back to the Batetela Rebellions that took place in the Congo Free State in the 1890s and early 1900s, and to link them with a succession of anti-Belgian popular uprisings that took place in the Congo up to the time of the Congo's independence. Moreover, a revolt by NCOs of the Force Publique was one of the sparks that plunged the Congo into crisis in early July 1960. Over 2.2 million passengers passed through Brussels Airport in July, a sign of a real summer recovery!

Historic record for average number of passengers per flight

Over 64,000 tonnes of goods transported

 

 

During the first month of the summer holidays, Brussels Airport welcomed more than 2.2 million passengers, which is 81% of the passenger numbers in July 2019. Brussels Airport continues the positive trend as this is again the highest monthly result since the crisis began in March 2020. In addition, the average number of passengers per flight reached an all time record of 151 passengers, compared to an average of 137 passengers in 2019. On the cargo side, volumes are down on last year (-14%), but up 15% compared to 2019.
