Brussels Airlines intensifies cooperation with THAI

Brussels Airlines and Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI), both Star Alliance members, today announced the further development of their existing cooperation. During peak-season, THAI will increase its capacity between Brussels Airport and Suvarnabhumi Airport. The joint announcement was made at the Regis Hotel in presence of His Royal Highness Prince Philippe of Belgium, on the occasion of the Belgian Economic Mission to Thailand.

Also in attendance at the event were members from the Belgian Economic Mission, including His Excellency Didier Reynders, Federal Deputy Prime Minister and Minster of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and European Affairs; Her Excellency Céline Fremault, Minister of Economy, Employment, Scientific Research and Foreign Trade of the Brussels-Capital Region; His Excellency Mark Michielsen, Belgian Ambassador to Thailand; His Excellency Apichart Chinwanno, Thai Ambassador to Belgium and to the European Union; and Mr. Emmanuel van Innis, Member of the Board of Brussels Airlines and Founding Partner.

“We look forward to further develop our successful cooperation with THAI, a quality airline offering premium on board-service”, said Brussels Airlines CEO Bernard Gustin. “Since Brussels Airlines became member of the global Star Alliance network we have been developing our home base at Brussels Airport into a Star Alliance hub that offers passengers connections to a growing number of long haul destinations. Our partnership with Star Alliance partner THAI, that allows passengers to fly nonstop to the Thai capital, fits perfectly in that strategy.”

Since November 2011 Thai Airways International operates a nonstop service between Belgium and Thailand for which the two airlines have formed a code-share agreement in July 2012, which means that Brussels Airlines can sell seats on the THAI flights under an SN flight number.  This partnership has resulted in an increase in passenger numbers for both airlines, due to the convenience of the direct route and the excellent connexions with the Brussels Airlines network.  The additional capacity THAI will offer during the peak-season, allows both partners to further intensify their cooperation.

Le secteur aéronautique est toujours dans le marasme: crise économique, prix élevé du kérosène, un euro trop fort par rapport au dollar… De nombreuses compagnies aériennes enregistrent encore des pertes, malgré une relative amélioration en 2012. Mais à côté des compagnies classiques, il y a des entreprises aéronautiques qui se portent bien. C'est le cas d'Abelag, à Zaventem.

Very small batch of DACO's F-16 book available...

Just a small newsletter to let everyone know that I've finally been able to
get the last available individual print pages of the original "Uncovering
the F-16 A/B/C/D"  book in a small but nevertheless final batch binded as a
normal book.

After I've sent a copy to those who expressed an interest in this book in
advance, only a DOZEN copies remain now of this long sold out book. So if
you have an interest in getting a copy in your hands, it's now the time to
act...

Due to the extra costs to do such a small batch, the price I have to ask is
50.00 euro + 13.50 p&p (registrated) shipped from Germany.

And although I suspect most of you got it already in your hands, but if you
haven't:
I only have about 200 copies remaining of the english version of my latest
book "Uncovering the Lockheed F-104G Starfighter" ! So if you haven't got
it yet, and your planning to buy & build to future Italeri 1/32 Starfighter
kit (which has been improved based on this book), get it before it's too
late!

No new news around my own 1/48 Starfighter improvement set yet (aside that
the test shots need a lot of corrections, and if we still can find space
some additional parts will be added...)

Also the Belgian Air Force Mirage 5 decals in 1/72 and 1/48 scale are now
available, as I've recently finished the instruction booklet for it. Ref
DCD7266 (price 8.50 euro) and DCD4866 (price 12.50 euro).

L'intercommunale Idelux doit décider pour le 1er juillet si elle le ferme ou pas car sa santé financière est compromise.

Sale temps pour les aérodromes wallons Après la mise à l'arrêt de Spa-Malchamps en février dernier, c'est l'existence de l'aérodrome de Saint-Hubert (Ardenne) qui est très sérieusement menacée. A tel point qu'on s'attend à une fermeture dans les prochaines semaines. Si c'était le cas, les deux plus gros aérodromes wallons auront fermé leur piste à quelques semaines d'intervalle...

Krakow archives : an example to follow

Until now the Krakow museum was already known for his rich collections and the world class quality of his aircraft restorations.

In my opinion, as in many occasions, they open a new way in aeronautical heritage preservation by putting some documents from their wonderful archives online.

Many museums are reluctant to act so due to byzantine discussions and misunderstandings about copyright laws.

By opening his archives world wide on the web, Krakow display the incredible achievements of Polish aviation. By giving access this museum ensure for the next generations these documents are available as well as part of the Polish heritage but also of the world heritage.

This initiative is also a formidable testimony of the tenacity to all those who preserved the aviation heritage of Poland during dark years.

I hope, many will follow this example including us.

Belgische bedrijven gaan meewerken aan Zwitserse ruimtependel

Op 13 maart 2013 is het Zwitserse ruimtevaartbedrijf Swiss Space Systems (S3) officieel voorgesteld aan de pers. Swiss Space Systems wil een kleine ruimtependel ontwikkelen en bouwen waarmee het bedrijf kleine satellieten in de ruimte kan brengen. Aan dit project werken ook enkele Belgische bedrijven mee.

Het Zwitserse ruimtevaartbedrijf werd in 2012 in Payerne opgericht door Pascal Jaussi en stelt momenteel een twintigtal mensen te werk. De oprichters van het bedrijf willen in de toekomst martleider worden in het lanceren van kleine satellieten die niet meer dan 250 kilogram wegen. Swiss Space Systems hoopt vooral van de lanceermarkt van nanosatellieten en CubeSats te kunnen domineren aangezien deze steeds meer gebruikt worden. Dit wil men in de praktijk verwezenlijken door een kleine, onbemande ruimtependel te ontwikkelen die op de rug van een Airbus A300 tot op een hoogte van tien kilometer zal gebracht worden. Eenmaal aangekomen op deze hoogte zal de ruimtependel losgemaakt worden van het vliegtuig waarna het zijn vier raketmotoren tot ontbranding zal brengen. Hierdoor zal de kleine ruimtependel zich tot op een hoogte van tachtig kilometer begeven. Aangekomen op deze hoogte zal de ruimtependel zijn laadruim openen zodat de vracht, samen met een zogenaamde 'upper stage' rakettrap, kan uitgezet worden. De rakettrap zal vervolgens de satelliet of andere vrachten tot in de juiste baan om de Aarde brengen terwijl de ruimtependel terugglijdt naar de Aarde. De onbemande ruimtependel zal op het einde van missie als een normaal vliegtuig landen op een luchthaven of commerciële ruimtehaven.
Voor de ontwikkeling en de bouw van de Zwitserse ruimtependel gaat Swiss Space Systems samenwerken met het Franse bedrijf Dassault en de Belgische bedrijven Sonaca en Space Application Services. Sonaca uit Gosselies is vandaag de dag vooral bezig met de fabricage van vliegtuigonderdelen en het in Zaventem gevestigde Space Applications Services is ondermeer gespecialiseerd in de ontwikkeling van software voor de ruimtevaart. Ook zal het bedrijf in de ontwikkeling van de kleine ruimtependel technologische begeleiding krijgen van ondermeer het Europese ruimtevaartagentschap ESA, de Katholieke Universiteit Leuven en het Belgische Von Karman Institute onderzoekscentrum. Zo hoopt Swiss Space Systems verschillende technologieën over te nemen uit de Hermes en X-38 ruimtevaartprogramma's waardoor men minder tijd in ontwikkeling moet steken en minder uitgaven heeft. Het Zwitserse ruimtevaartbedrijf wil de eerste testvluchten uiteindelijk al in 2017 uitvoeren. Het bedrijf had ook graag een commerciële ruimtehaven gebouwd in Payerne vanwaar men de vluchten zal uitvoeren. Naast Zwitserland hebben ook Maleisië en Marokko al laten weten dat ze willen samenwerken met Swiss Space Systems om een commerciële ruimtehaven te bouwen.
